Question about 1992 Eagle Talon

My 1992 Eagle Talon TSi

My talon lets out a sound like marbles whenever the rpms fall around 1000 or below around the upper part of engine in the middle of the head, but goes away above 1100 and then comes back at 5000. I am at wits end! I pulled the head off and took it into a machine shop where they checked it, shaved it down, replaced the valve guide seals. I also replaced the pistons with some 4g63 instead of the 4g63t and gave them new piston rings and bearings. checked for the clearence between the head and pistons and came out perfectly. If you have any suggestions for me to check on I would love to hear them

I've got a 95 Talon Esi with a manual 5 speed and I'm getting a similar whining noise and I guess you could say sounds like marbles rattling, lol. But only does this when the car is completely cold and has been sitting overnight. It does this for a matter of minutes and less if I take off driving it. I've browsed many, many forums looking for a similar problem and most complain of constant noise, not just at start up like mine, but Mark mentioned if pressing in the clutch makes the noise stop then it's the throw out bearing and when I press in the clutch it completely stops making the noise. I was already suspicious of the bearings and that seems to make sense if clutch is engaged then stops it. Once the car is warmed up it never makes another noise and drives very nice, except it shifts with a little resisitance but not too bad and only does that while still warming up. I'm assuming that once I start driving it throws up enough trans fluid and lubes it but needs replaced and I'm sure will get worse although it's been doing this for awhile now and doesn't seem to be getting worse. Financially I can't afford to do much right now about it but I do have a mechanic that works out of his own house that does magic so I'll see what he can do to replace or possibly inject the bearings. I'll report back after I find out. Thanks

I'm guessing your problem is low oil pressure. Your TACH could also be giving you a false reading? Does the engine vibrate bad when it falls below 1000 rpm?

It could be weak valve springs, but you should have those replaced when the head was pulled?

Also, it is important to hook up a mechanical oil pressure guage to see if you oil pump is failing...that would cause this too?

One other possibility is a bad throw out bearing in the clutch area. Its not a big deal, but would need replacing. I'd replace clutch while you in there (Pressure plate too). To check if its the throw out bearing see if your noise goes away when the clutch is pressed in at idle? It may....

Let me know what you find out.

    Good luck, Mark

It is low oil pressure. Mine did the same thing until I switched to 10-w40 motor oil. the thicker oil makes up for the wear in the oil pump. If that doesn.t work, then probably bad pump or main bearing. The main bearing helps regulate oil pressure too

What you have is a faulty TPS-throttle position sensor, they are fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. You can find it on the throttle body of your fuel injection system, just follow the air intake hose from the box toward the engine, and it will be right off the throttle body. It is usually connected with a couple of screws/bolts, and has a plug in.

Check your radiator coolant level.Could be low or coolant sensor is bad, if not low more then likely sensor is bad.

How come my 91 talon tsi awd 5spd wont start

Possible bad starter , low voltage in battery meaning dead battery or just bad and corroded connections at battery post and starter. Try cleaning connections and recharge battery if needed.

Unless you have a bad engine temp sender this should happen until the engine reaches the programed temperature.if it causes battery failure than you darn sure need to replace the sender
