06 Galant Shifter Console Light Replacement

Can anyone tell me how to replace the light in the Shifter console where the Park/Reverse/Drive/etc is at? I do not remeber if it light up when we bought it or not. We are the 2nd owners and my wife wears that it worked before but I never drive it and I would think it would light up. Any ideas on how to do this and what is the terminology of this part?

SOURCE: 1998 ford escort wagon light in shifter console out.

If just the shifter light is out then it is not the fuse, the top plate of the shifter just pulls off, on some models there are 2 screws, the bulb is below that top plate.

SOURCE: How do you disassemble the console of '02 Nissan Sentra w/Auto

lot of work. There is a bolt in the glove box that you will have to remove. first open your glove box and squeeze the two sides to drop the box out. then on the left towards the radio there is a gold bold. I believe 10mm socket would fit. unbolt that and that should free up the front to allow you to get the rest out. That little light is a pain to get to. alot of bolts and screws for one light.

You should be able to hear the clicking in the shifter and the switch--I think this is normal cause when mine is stuck in park you CANT hear it.

Brake light, shifter and console light

brake light is suppose to be out, unless hand brake set.
the other lights are called PARK.
all cars have huge number of park lamps all over car, and insided.

ok park lock out is failing
a blown fuse.
if you look more, you will see lots of things lost electrical power.

park lock out is a system it prevents car from moving in drive.
it uses the brake switch, and console shifter to detect this error
and blocks the shifter via the shifter solenoid.
your defeat switch is there just for this error.
the diagnoses is easy. with the correct shematic.
this is in the FSM
and alldata dot com.
what happens is the brake is depressed, sending 12v to the
PRNLD tranny switch, if the this switch is in fact at P or N
then 12v passes to the shift solenoid, and it then energizes
and unlocks the shifter,
that is the whole ball of wax.
need a schematic ask. or join alldata.com and be (enabled)

SHIFT NOT WORKING AND BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. I CAN PUSH SOMETHING IN THE SHIFT INDICATOR BOX AND IT WILL REVERSE, BUT THE BRAKE LIGHTS STILL DO NOT COME ON UNTIL I TURN MY LIGHTS ON.

i don't mind shouting, I'm old school , from days of caps only terminals and teletypes ASR33s , CAP ON. Viet Nam,...... etc....

i have only questions, I'm retired now.. and can help.
what transmission< A/T or M/T? i drive M/Ts, what do you drive.?
shifter lever not working.? the key word here is "Lever".
does that mean the lever is stuck , or the A/T fails to shift
automatically from, 1st to 2nd. my guess is lever.

ok , i think you have A/T and on A/T cars the brake light
switch is the logical permissive, to shift out of PARK ,them means
if the brake switch is bad or not adjusted correctly the
A/T park lock circuits fail.
You can say, my car is stuck in PARK and we all know what that means.

on most SUZ, cars, thereis shift console defeat switch, for this lock soleniod , inside..
on many its lower left corner of console shifter base next to your seat.
the cars operator guide in the glove box (free from suz dealer)
and tells you all this, driving car with out that free book is problematic, they say.

no, the tail lights are not brake lights.
they are 2 independent systems,
if you need a full shop manual its here.

Shifter stuck in park selector light in reverse and in reverse, shifter wont move out of park

The SHiFT lock is broken or not pulling up when u disengage the reverse and PARK!
SHiFT LOCK is the one in ur SHiFTiNG KNOB, when u try to release the PAR or going to reverse u have to pull/press it!
The only way you could release and check it, is by dismantling the whole shifting console, and check where it is disconnected or go to the nearest garage to fix on that!
Hope that helps u out!

2006 Altima won't shift into reverse or park

Is there any warning lights or malfunction besides this?? There are three main parts that may cause this: Park/Neutral safety switch(located on the transmission), Brake pedal switch(located at the brake pedal), Shift lock solenoid(located below the shifter). P/N safety switch prevents the shifter from shifting out of (P) or shifting into (R/P) while vehicle is in motion. Brake pedal switch sends a signal to release the shifter lock to shift out of park. Shift lock, locks the shifter as describe above and is located at the shifter base. I recommend inspection/replacement of the shift lock solenoid and P/N safety switch as its an intermitted problem. Hopefully this helps
