Hello, i know notthing about cars so i come to you for help.
i have a vw passat 91 5speed 1.6l.
i was driving it and it kept stalling... then finally, as i was slowing down for a red, rpms went down to around 1k and i heard something blow around the front driver area, everything turned off and then back again, i mean everything, radio, lights, car. it turns back on after 1second, and i could only cruise down to a side street. car wouldnt turn on anymore. i checked fuel pump and it doesnt run, it gets no power. could anyone help with find the problem? maybe a map of the wiring for the fuel pump or could it be something else? thanks in advance. email me if youd like at krykowska at yahoo dot ca
i like to know if pasat 1995 ^ cyl.and pasat 1991 pasat 4 cyl. battery are good for bouth cars?
Really need more info as regards warning lights.
But from the info you supplied.
ie "blow around the front driver area" sounds like the exhaust backing-up which would lead me to suspect the catalytic converter burning out. What happens is the interior of the "cat" melts and is driven to the back of its container.blocking the exhaust. This stops the flow and the gasses are forced back towards the engine. Which I suspect was the noise you heard. And the engine stalls.
Something like the old trick of sticking a potato up the tailpipe.
A quick check on the "cat" but not 100%.......Slide under the car. The cat should be the 1st box in the exhaust system from the front. and give it a good knock with your hand. If you hear a rattle as though something is loose inside it's probably shot.
Also the car can run without a cat. If at all possible disconnect it from the front joint and fire the car up.
It will be noisy, but if it runs ok without cutting out, you've found your problem.
Cats are quite cheap now and if you have to take it a garage, no more than 1 hours labour to fit.
Not a 100% diagnosis and don't take it for granted this is the solution.
Hope this helps.

Change the fuel filter, when the fuel filter is blocked and can cause to cut fuel.
Check also timing belt.
