I had this problem on a 2004 TD4 the amber lights occasionally coming on whilst braking. I eventually found that it was due to a defective brake switch (above brake pedal in foot well ) this switch has 3 contacts one of which ties in with the abs controller somehow, so even though my real brake lights were fine the switch was not, its cheap and easy to change and fixed the fault for me, try it before spending big bucks at a dealership.

Traction control lights store codes, have the system tested, the code will lead u in the direction of the problem, until then it is just guessing, do the test.

2litre Auto Diesel Does the ABS warning light indicate a brake pad fault and does it apply to front and rear brakes as well. or just the front ones? thanks Fatman2

If the ABS light stays on after you start the engine there is a problem with the ABS system, there are small sensor on each wheel and when they get dirty you will bet a steady ABS light. If it comes on when you are stopping on snow, ice or rain, it is probably OK.

WILL IT HARM THE ENGINE OR VEHICLE IN GENERAL ON A 2001 TAHOE IF YOU CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT WITH THE ABS LIGHT AND TRACTION OFF LIGHT ON?

No you will not "harm" the vehicle.

1. The ABS fault light will mean that the anti - lock braking facility is not working. However the conventional braking system will continue to operate. Bear in mind that you now have no system that prevents you from locking up your brakes so it is all down to the driver.

2. Traction control (TC) warning. The TC function will not be working or not working as programmed. There should be a TC on/off switch or button in the vehicle. Make sure you manually disable the TC by switching the TC OFF until the problem is identified and rectified.
TC is a useful driver aid, especially in slippery road surface conditions, so take extra precautions when driving without it.

Even in good conditions the Tahoe is not a vehicle that handles well.

3. You should get the vehicle checked for the ABS and TC problem. It may only be some faulty sensors that require replacing but a proper diagnosis needs to be made.

My tc and abs light are coming on all the

Speedo and traction control; check wheel sensors all 4, clean and blow the sensors and reactor rings.
Is ABS light on as well? if so, you need a EBTCM module mounted to the brake ABS pump facing the battery. There are places in the US that rebuild them with warranty for under $150.

Check your brake fluid level first. If it is fine then you probably have a bad abs brake sensor.

THE ABS WARNING DASH LIGHT IS ON PLUS THE TC LIGHT AND THE LIGHT SHOWING MY FREELANDER UPLIFTED FROM THE BACK AND A CAUTION SIGN. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? PLUS OCCASIONALLY WHEN I START THE CAR THE RED CAN...

replace brake peddleswitch first, if that dont cure, replace the throttle peddle switch, and if that dont worrk replace the reverse switch on gear box and the forward detector switch for the hill desent. as for the oil warning light it can only be one of three things , ie low oil, bad wiring or switch and last the worst of all oil pump failure.

I have 3 orange lights on dash tc abs and a hill

HI,

I have a X Reg 2.5KV6 Freelander also, same problem.
The solution for me and many other was to replace one of the speed sensors. They reside in the hub of each wheel and monitor each wheels speed, if one is rotating faster it applies the brake to that wheel (Traction control) Also controls ABS and HDC.

If one sensor fails the vehicle turns off the TC, HDS & ABS.

unfortunately to find out which sensor has failed the vehicle needs to be plugged into a diagnostic PC at a garage. I paid £40 in Stoke-on-Trent to have this done, I then knew which was the faulty sensor and replaced it.

I have a friend who also took out his faulty sensor and cleaned it (WD40 & a wire brush) and put it back in, never had the problem again, although you need to be carful doing this as they are held in place by a copper bush and need to be intact to allow re-fitment.

As a comferting note for you, I drove my V6 for 7 months with the very same fault, just remember you have no ABS or traction control though.

Another trick BUT I DO NOT ADVISE THIS ON PUBLIC ROADS is as follows. get up to 15mph in D on auto box, turn off engine turn back on again whilst still moving, it should cut engine off and kick back in again (just like bump starting a manual car) for me this reset the fault and was good for three months before it went again. But be aware, this is only somthing i tried and it worked for me. it is dangerous to do this on a public road.

Whe I hit my brakes in my volvo a red light shows. What does that mean? The symbol it shows is a ladybug figure

I would assume, just because it comes on when you apply your brakes it would be an ABS warning light, but you should probably ask a dealership to be sure.

IF this is a 1.8 litre engine then the throttle stop needs to be reset otherwise drive each abs wheel speed sensor in a bit and test.
