Question about 2002 Volkswagen Passat

Engine warning light and engine vibration 2002 VW Passat

The engine warning (emissions) light started flashing and engine idling very roughly-shaking the car. It is a 2002 Passat Turbo and it sounded like a 65 Beetle when I drove it to the dealer. Any help would be appreciated. The car has 95,000 miles on it. Regular service and oil changes. Water pump and timing belt replaced at 70,000 miles.

I THOUGHT there was a factory recall about the emissions system on the '02 Passat, but can't find it listed anywhere. The idiot light on the dash just illuminated yesterday.

The flashing is telling you that the engine is mis-firing, the dealer will run a test to determine the cylinder that is mis-firing, chances are it is something simple

The engine light come on then it will start flashing i have a rough idle. what could be wrong

The check engine light is because all check engine light codes are caused by components that affect emissions. It's not actually an engine problem, it's a problem with either your O2 sensor, MAF sensor, fuel/air ratio, pyrometer, or exhaust.

99 vw passat, when running, MIL lite, on car vibrates- shakes

no flashing light and rough shaking will be part of spark plug but also a very bad miss fire. I am going to guess that your engine is a 1.8t if so you have 4 coils that sit on top of your spark plugs that most likely are arcing you will need to figure out which coil is failing or you can save yourself the trouble and replace all 4 and the spark plugs. before you do that though check your wireing going to your coils look for broken wires or the ground that is next to the #1 coil that is the one closest to the front of the motor and you. hope that helps. that will be the start to fixing your issue also when you pull out the spark plug look down the hole first and make sure that there is not oil in the bottom of the hole if that is the case you will need a valve cover gasket as well. good luck hope that helps

Yellow engine warning light and car has rough idle

to get trouble codes you must hook up a test tool called a scanner, this interfaces with the computer in the car and pulls the codes from the computers memory.

"Check engine light" EMISSIONS WORKSHOP! Do you want to shut it off??? After reading all of the negative comments and how much money Passat owners have spent due to this manufacturer's problem, I am going to save the day and save you $$$ by showing you how to "reset" the diagnostic computer which makes the "emissions workshop-check engine light come on! (This is the same thing the VW dealer will charge you hundreds of dollars to do.) To turn off the "Check Engine" (Emissions Workshop) light, simply follow these 5 basic steps:
1. Pop open the hood.
2. Insert the key in the ignition and turn without starting the engine until all of the dash indicators light and warning tones sound.
3. With the key still in the ignition, use a 10mm wrench or socket to loosen and completely disconnect the negative (-) battery cable from the battery. Wait about 60 seconds before reconnecting.
4. Re-connect and tighten the negative (-) cable to the battery and close the hood.
5. Start the engine. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT HAS GONE OUT!
If the light stays on, then there really is a problem. If it has turned off, be glad, but don't be surprised to see it come on again in a few weeks. If it comes on again, simply follow steps 1-5. Remember... This quick repair is for those who just can't stand looking at this light or afford to visit VW every time this light comes on. If you feel the need to service the vehicle, service the vehicle. I hope this has made your "NIGHTMARE" a little easier!!!

2001 passat has loss of power, shaking and check engine light flashing

i had this problem on my 2002 passat. it was the ignition coils. first set were replaced in 2002 as a vw recall. second set (at 122K miles) were relatively inexpensive to fix. just one failed but it made the engine run really rough - my mechanic was able to move it from one cylinder to the next to get the problem to repeat.

dont drive make sure you get the timeing belt put on buy a good repair place. one that wont burn you up belt might be 60 bucks but that engine is 2000.00 used . the worst option is that it might need turbo is there smoke . or rough idle comeing from turbo blade will make a nose if it is going out start and listen to turbo if it coming from there turbo . i should have one used for about 300.00 plus shipping wreckcars@aol.com
