Question about 2001 Jaguar XJ8

2001 XJ8 Vanden Plas engine light

I have a 2001 Jaguar Xj8...110,000 miles. First time I have had a check engine light come on...while driving the car it kicked down to a crawl...the display panel indicated a transmission malfunction...limped the car home...went back out to the car..check engine light is now on..drove it around the neighborhood...no transmission issue like before...any suggestions?

I've had the same problem on my 2001. It turned out to be the battery. Apparently the voltage had dropped to the point that the computer began to malfunction. I'd first go to a battery shop and have it checked under load before looking for other solutions.

Sounds like it is some type of 'limp home' mode.
It could be anything. It might be as simple as a bad Fuel Pump Relay. When you turn the Key to the ON position (not Start) can you hear a little buzz for about 1 second? That would be your fuel pump running. You need to see if the engine is getting gas and spark.

I just bought a 2004 jaguar xj8 vanden plas. Took it to a car wash and engine light came on. Done this 2 times now. Car runs excellent just have engine light on. Anyway to reset. Thanks
Go to autozone or similar they will scan and tell what light means. They should be able to reset my guess is a weak sensor.

Heavy gas smell on 2000 jaguar vanden plas
check for a bad fuel filter or a leaking rubber line after the fuel pump . To dump that much fuel so quickly ,the fuel pump is pumping to a broken /split hose or steel line.

get a rebuilt or used transmission. Jaguar says you don't have to change trans fluid because it should last the "life of the trans" which means it will die just like everything else. Fluid change will do no good. I just went thru this.

I have a 2002 jaguar vanden plas. The amber engine light stays light. The car performs fine with no other messages. I have hand a tune up at 38,000 miles at the local jaguar dealership. The car only...
The red light is for warning the amber is for caution so your caution light is on thats the amber the amber is reserved for local market like brake pads,oil change,or abs that affects steering stability, The information is exclusive only your driver handbook will define it

How to do a timing change on 2001 Jaguar Vanden Plas
Timing is going to be non-adjustable as far as the ignition is concerned. Are you refering to the timing chain? If so, this "should" be good for the life of the engine. If there is a performance issue, I can help diagnose it. Let me know and I will continue to help.

When i remove my key from my 2001 xj8 vanden plas jaguar the drivers seat goes backwards about 6 inches which makes it hard to get out of the car, how do i get it to stop doing this
Turn the steering column adjusting knob (located on the side of the column) from the auto to off setting. Good luck.

Hi, A service center just recommended an engine flush for my 2001 xj8 vanden plas. I wondered if this is a Jaguar recommended service? Thanks, Andrew
I'm guessing they mean the cooling system. It is a good idea with any engine to have it flushed periodically. Permanent antifreeze is not permanent. It needs to be repaced regularly and it is a good idea to flush the system to clean out loose gunk when you do this. Unless Jaguar says NOT to do it, it should be done especially if it has never been done on your car. Hope this helps.

Where do you add trasmission fluid to a 2001 Jaguar vanden plas
because of the sensitivity of some of these higher end cars i strongly recomend that you take this car to the dealer and allow a jaguar trained tech instruct you on this. youll be happier for it.
