Starter stays engaged

It could be the starter or the key switch. You would need to know if the starter solenoid is getting power from the key when the key is off to know. It should not be getting power if the key is off.

Need to know where the starter is located

Not knowing what model or year your vehicle is makes it hard to give an exact answer but the starter will be at the rear (usually the passenger side) where it can connect with the flywheel or starter ring when engaged. You can also fallow the large positive battery cable from either the starter solenoid or battery to locate the starter.

I need to know how to chang the starter and know and located

4.3 litre V6 ? first disconnect the battery before you start, then raise vehicle and place safely on approved weight rated jack stands, you will need a 14 mm or 15 mm socket wrench and an 8 mm socket or wrench to remove wire leads from starter and solenoid, remove starter by removing the two mounting bolts, reinstall in opposite form. starter is on paasenger side of motor sitting in the driver seat...

Drivers side, top of motor where trans attaches. One of the starter bolts is the trans to motor bolt. Hope that helps you find it. Have a good day.
