I have a 2003 chevy silverado half ton pickup with a fan control knob that only works when it is turned up to 4 or 5. 1 2 and 3 will not work. Need help diagnosing the problem and possible solutions. Would like to know what is wrong before taking it to a shop for repairs.

my problem is that when I turn the knob to any speed from low to high

the air come out from the top of the dash board as if I turned the setting to defrost. when the setting is on to circulate air at my feet. Again the air flows out of the defrosting vent abouve the dash board. Can someone relate to me what causes this problem.

Heater is not heating

Check that the coolant level is high enough in the overflow tank. Check that the 2 heater hoses going to the heater core are getting hot when calling for heat in the car at the control knobs or levers. Is the fan working? Is air blowing sufficiently as controlled by the fan speed control?

The heating and cooling fan does not respond to the control switch. it will not turn on

If it was the resistor pack the fan will operate only in the highest speed selection. If all power levels don't work then a metal piece inside the selector knob fell off the assembly housing. In that effect there is no electrical contact to the selector level function. Hopefully you haven't vacuumed your car and loose it. If you found it, it would be another story repairing it and opt for a new assembly unless you're a DIY kind of person.

Heater Fan does not work

Sounds like the fan control knob has shorted out. You can check the fan "blower" relay and fuse in the engine compartment but you need to make sure the control knob is good or you will keep blowing fuses and relays. If your blower fuse and relay are good, then just have the control knob checked and replaced if needed.

The ac won't work right

The first knob controls the temperature. Turning it counterclockwise will lower the temperature, clockwise will raise it. Pressing the button will turn on the circulate function (recirculates the air from the cabin).
The second knob controls the fan speed. Counterclockwise will reduce the fan speed, clockwise will increase it. Pressing the button activates the A/C compressor (allows colder temperatures).
The third knob controls the flow direction. Each picture indicates where the flow will go. Pressing the button activates the rear defoggers (in some models, it will also activate the heated side mirrors).
