Question about 2003 Volkswagen Jetta TDI
My car trunk won't lock. What should I do?
More than likely the spring inside the latch has come undone. To save some money you can remove the latch from the trunk, open the latch and reset the spring. To Remove the latch you will need to remove the carpeted cover on the trunk lid (there are about 10-15 phillips screws holding it on.) Once the cover is off disconnect the rod going to the latch by opening up the clip thats connected to the actuator. Disconnect the wire harness, Remove the 2 10mm Nuts holding the latch to the lid. Remove the black plastic cover on the latch and remove the electrical piece (the plastic cover wraps over the latch and is secured buy 2 plastic pressure snaps). Look down into the latch and you should see a small spring...on my Jetta the spring wasn't connected. take a small pointed object ( I used a light tester) and reattch the spring to the black hook. Mine had some broken plastic in it and After I removed that it worked fine. Once the spring is back into place reassemble the trunk and you should be good to go. No money spent, and it only takes about a half hour or 45 mins to do.

I had the same problem ... the trunk won't lock or close -- if you look closely, the locking spring is probably broken (that was the case with my trunk). There's 3 ways to solve this... unfortunately, they all involves spending money:
1. buy the lock piece from your VW parts and replace it yourself
2. buy the lock piece from your VW parts and ask a local mechanic to replace it.
3. (easiest but cost the most) take your VW to your dealership and ask the service department to fix it.
I went with #2, I bought the locking piece from VW dealer and took it to a trusted local mechanic, the lock is once more working. Hope that helps!

This solution works just great. The hardest part was reattaching the spring onto the post on the locking lever, I took a shrimp deshelling utensil from my silverware drawer to maneuver the spring back into position.

you must remove the internal felt covering that is on the inside of the trunk. This does take some force, but don't be afraid to pull hard, you will most likely not break any of the attachments on the felt cover. On the right hand side of the truck there is a handle right next to the license plate, it will take some finagling to get this to disconnect. Again, brute force dexterity and a flashlight are your best bet.

there is a button to pop the trunk, when u lift the little compartment between the two front seats... took me a while to find it myself lol

most likely cause is latch cover plastic has broken and got lodged in the latch mechanism. now the fun part, fold down back seat , slide into trunk with a phillips screwdriver a flashlight and a large strait blade screwdriver, once in trunk remove trunk cover, then with strait blade unlatch the trunk. once lid is open remove latch and take out broken plastic to free up latch and reinstall then retest before closing trunk.

It is your wiring coming out of the trunk on the left side. One of the wire are cut because in cold weather when you open the trunk, wire can't move easily in the plastic tube. Sorry for my english.

Hi there? It sounds like the car is ranning on limp mode. Is the engine managment light on? if so, the air flow meter can cause this simptons. If you disconnect the air flow meter which is located next to the air filter box, it should improve it if it is disconnected, don't worry this will not cause any problems.
If it improves it by disconnecting the air flow meter then you'll need a new air flow meter..
