FORD BRAKE LIGHT

CAN YOU TELL ME WHY MY BRAKE LIGHTS WONT WORK ON MY 1998 FORD EXPEDITION
I intermittently have brake lights on my 2003 Frod Expedition. When I first get int he car, I have no brake lights. After pumping the brake pedal, they come on. Is this also a switch problem?

Check the connector at the brake switch located on the brake pedal lever arm if it is ok it is most likely a faulty switch

Push the brake pedal and have someone see if you have brake lights. If you don't replace the brake switch. It is on the brake pedal under the dash. This will fix both problems. After that you have to replace the shifter. Because you cant buy the unlock solenoid with out the shifter.

1998 Ford Expedition rear break lights not working

check fuses. if all good there i would use a test light to check power to brake light switch on pedal. should be two wires. one will be hot all the time and the other will be hot when brakes are applied. if you have power there and no lights still i would suspect multifunction switch is bad on steering column.

I Have a 99 expedition eddie bauer. My brake lights wont come on till i push the pedal almost to the floor. Can u tell me whether i need to replace the brake light switch.

I had a similar problem when I owned a 1997 Expedition. In my case, the brake light switch, mounted to the brake pedal arm, was faulty. My guess is that you have a similar problem. Pretty easy to replace... couple of wires and a clip as I recall.

Good luck.
