When the temp outside is hot(I live in Phoenix)and I attempt to go up any type of grade I get an engine light accompanied by no power. As long as the outside temp is cool(mid 80's or below)the problem doesn't exist. Vehicle temp doesn't seem to make a difference. Could this be a MAF problem, oxygen sensors, both? I've tried to have the codes read and have been told that nothing comes up on the reader.
Theres like 100 things can cause this but i would go the cheep rte n then if this things dont help then u need to go to the dealer, i would have ur battery check if its less than a full crank amps id replace it, i would try running some chevron with techron fuel injector u can find it at any auto part store n get some maf cleaner n clean the maf, the idle air control n throttle body and if u havent done a tune up do one n oil change

there are two sensors or more if it's a v 6 or v8 you have a post catalytic converter 02 sensor which is on the exhaust manifold and you have another after the catalytic converter they will be on the exhaust system in case your not sure what the exhaust system looks like, the 02 sensor looks like a spark plug it will have a quick disconnect that you have to unhook before you unscrew the sensor, 02 sensors will fail in three ways the heater burns out or the sensor gets lazy and does not cycle fast enough for the computer or gets fowled out by carbon and does not read at all, most of the time it's the sensor before the catalytic converter or on the exhaust manifold you will need to buy a special 02 sensor socket to remove it. It has a slot for the wires in it and will allow the socket to let the wires hang to one side the socket costa about $20.00 at any parts store if you have a schucks or autozone you can go there and ask them to test your car and it's free they can pull the code and tell you which one it is and point it out to you and you can buy the sensor from them once it is replaced the light will go off by itself, a heated 02 sensor costs on average $40.00 may be more or less not including sales tax.

you may have a bad converter, its not cleaning the exhaust, but on the other hand a bad rear o2 sensor can also cause this problem, there is a wat to test but you would need a scan tool or scope, replace the other sensor, if light returns then replace the converter, no money lost, if you were to replace the converter the o2 sensors should also be replaced. you have 165000 miles it would be crazy not to replace sensor and install new cat, so basically your just doing it in 2 steps and may get lucky and not need a cat. good luck.
Testimonial: "Your information is exactly what I needed to know.I suppose I just did not want to spend the money for a cat. converter. Thanks again for your help. "

The code indicates a problem with Air/Fuel mixture, and it is very possible with the "chips" you installed, the A/F ratio the ECM sees is out of tolerance. As far as inspections is concerned, you may need to remove the chips and reset the ECM before you go for inspection.

P0100 OBD-II Trouble Code
Technical Description
Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Malfunction
Basically this means that there's a problem with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or circuit.
You will likely not notice any serious driving problems, but there may be symptoms like a general decrease in power or sluggishness.
Causes
A code P0100 may mean one or more of the following:
* The MAF may be disconnected, or a wiring connection may be bad.
* The MAF sensor may be faulty.
Possible Solutions
Use an OBD II Reader (or go tou your local parts store and they will for free) and reset the code and see if it comes back.
Then start with the cheapest, easiest repair procedures:
* Check the Mass Air Flow Sensor wiring/harness is connected properly and that there are no broken / frayed wires.
* Unplug and reconnect the MAF wiring harness a few times to clear the contacts.
* Check the voltage of the MAF sensor (refer to a repair manual for vehicle specific information).
* Replace the MAF sensor.
