Question about 2003 GMC Envoy

1 Answer

Why does my heater keep running after I shut my Envoy off?

I came home last night, shut my 2003 GMC Envoy off, took the key out of the ignition, got out and shut the door, and my heater was still running. It drained my battery in like 20 minutes. This morning I recharged the battery and started up the envoy. Shut it off and it did the same thing. I didn't even have the heater on??? I pulled out the fuse to the blower, I think, and it stopped. My envoy is running fine, but I need heat. I live in Minnesota!!!

I have the same problem. I have also been searching the web for a solution. I came across someone saying that it was the heater module located behind the glove department. I can't find now where i read this but it said the part was approx. $150.00. He was having same problem as us, heater wouldn't obey touch commands to turn on/off or when heater did blow it would only blow real low or real high. Like you, after turning off engine blower motor was still running even though it wasn't blowing air out.
I'm tired of paying for things that are not due to normal "wear and tear" on my 2003 Envoy. Let me know if this helps you and how you repaired it. I'll probably have to take mine to the shop but because I'm a "girl" I swear they think I'm crazy with all my Envoy complaints.

If the blower motor will run with the ignition key off, I would check for a stuck blower relay.

Key stuck in on posistion of 2004 envoy. Engine could not turn off. Had to unplug battery to turn off. Key still stuck in on posistion. Will not come out

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you spray WD40 on the ignition switch. This will help loosen the gearing, by then you can remove the key.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

The heat/ac fan will not shut off! Not even when the vehicle is not running.

Its possible that a leak has caused corrosion within the heater core which has led to a short which is keeping the fan running. Does it just keep running or shut off after awhile?

Heater fan wont shut off when ignition is turned off.

Should have a blower control unit. Sometinmes these are known to leave the blower running on low speed with the key off.

Ignition switch or key problem

hi there this could be either as both can wear out. try spraying some maintenance spray down the side of the key and work it in by turning it a few times. it could just be dry and hence sticking.

hope this helps Regards JR

Dead battery

The clicking sound you hear when you turn the key is the starter solenoid trying to apply voltage to the starter. Try this, if you can see the starter tap it with a hammer and then try to start the car. this is an emergency make do.

The solenoid is a heavy duty relay that is capable of switching the high current requirements of the starter (up to 70 - 100 amps).

If it's clicking its closing. By the way a new starter will come with a new solenoid

I just replaced my starter in my F-150 today for the exact same problem. Cost $100

Hope this helps Good Luck Loringh

No start/ stalling

youmay have a dead cell in your battery mine acted like yours igot it running at home i tested the battery and found it only had 10.6 volts this indicates a bad cell tip: if your battery is 4 or 5years old replace it because it needs it also you can damage your alternator by waiting till the last crank
