OK, This may not be a 92 gmc solution but I hope it helps. I had this problem on a non-gmc. The Hi-Lo switch on the sterring column grounds a relay to activate it and cause the switch to hi-beam. With Hi-beams on the steering column switch would loose the ground while turning the sterring wheel. The lights would shift to low-beam and back to hi-beam several times BUT looks as is they were going on and off. I run a new wire from the top of the steering column to a new ground to provide a ground path. The problem was cured.

I have a 1996 gmc Sonoma. Headlights will work sometimes.

Consider the dimmer switch on the steering wheel; the wires from it wouldn't affect the tail lights, but could possibly affect the headlights. Hopefully loose wires from the assy is the problem.. replacing the unit might be difficult. or expensive.

1994 Pontiac Grand am Tailights all work normaly except when the headlights are on and then they don't work at all?

Could be the headlight switch.
The switch has two sets of contacts for the parking lights, the park position and headlight position.
You may need to check the circuit at the switch to see if you are loosing power when the switch is moved from park to head.

Tail lights and parking lights won't work on my

If neither your front or rear lights are coming on I would think it was a problem with the headlight switch. Even if that switch is bad, your brake lights should still work when you press on the pedal. Usually a good indication to determine if the headlight switch is the problem is to see if your dash lights are not working as well. If those aren't working it's usually the headlight switch itself. If the dash lights DO work then your headlight/tailight relay is probably defective. Swap with a similar relay to test.

I'd be willing to bet your dash lights don't work either when you turn the headlight on.change the headlight switch, it has a short, it's only about 11 dollars at advance auto, and is fairly easy to replace. my 93 chevy did same thing, changed headlight switch, problem solved

You checked to make sure you didn't blow all the bulbs at once?
If your front park lights work, then the headlight switch is probably alright.
You may have a taillight relay in your fusebox. Check the owner's manual. It may show it.

Can't get 1998 Chevy Pickup 1500 out of part also has no back up lights. Have already replaced brake switch and Park Neutral Safety switch but still have problem. Any advice?

Have you checked to see if the fuse is blown? The brake lights have to work to get the truk out of park as thepower from the switch opens the gate in the steering colum to let the shifter into gear.the brake light fuse is in the underdash fuse panel. while checking fuses check them all as some circuits effect others so any blown fuse can cause this problem eventhe fuse panel under the hood. The tailight circuit boards are well known to fail and cause blown fuses so unplug the tailights at the light change the fuse and try to ge it out of park If it works plug one at a time the tailights in and you'll find your problem the circuit boards are a common problem so they can be aquired at most parts stores.

92 lexus ls 400. Tail lights will not turn on. Brake and parking lights turn on. Fuse is good, verified.

check power to your rear tailight bulbs positive to see if they even get power with the headlight switch on. if your headlights come on then it's probably not a switch issue. Just check and make sure that you have power and ground to your tailights. It sounds most likely like an electrical problem. The best way to find the problem is to get an electrical wiring diagram and go through the system. But definately first check power and ground at the tailight bulbs to start.
