My 1997 ford expedition gets stuck in 4 wheel drive and dooesn't come back out.

    I have the same problem. My 1997 ford expedition is stuck in 4 wheel drive Low Range. Any thoughts about how to get it out?

    My 1999 Ford Expedition got stuck in 4 wheel drive mode and I haven't been able to get it to return to 2 wheel drive yet.

    2001 Expedition wont disengage front tires even though 4wd light is off. 4-low does engage and disengage but front tires still spin.

Your actuator motor on the transfer case isn't working anymore. You can get the motor at Ford. Once a month it's recommended to cycle the 4wd unit on and off to keep the piston in the actuator motor from freezing up.

At the risk of going to the offensive, sometimes it's the simplest thing - you ARE putting it in neutral, at a stop, engine running, with the brake pedal pressed, when trying to shift out of 4wd, yes?

2) Check for blown fuse for 4x4 shift module

3)This sounds dumm, but worked on my wife 99. I took it to a school parking lot, put it in reverse, floored it and pulled on the lever and it popped out of 4x4

4) The shift motor is bad. Replace it.

My 02 Ford expedition started to shake when I turn it on what should I do
If your vehicle is a 4 wheel drive, than you are probably driving in 4low or 4 high on dry pavement. Put it back in a4wd (automatic 4 wheel drive) position and this shaking when turning should stop.

On a 1997 ford expedition, how do you change from 2wd to 4wd?
If you can't find the 4 X 4 switch, then your expedition is probably All Wheel Drive and it will not have an on or off. If it is "all wheel drive" it is like it is in four wheel drive all the time and will kick in when it feels a wheel slip. Check your owner's manual and you will probably find that it is all wheel drive. Hope this helps.

I HAVE A 97 FORD EXPEDITION THAT STUCK IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE
Possible solution..Expedition uses a vacuum solenoid on the firewall that controls vacuum to the 4-wheel drive actuator. Vacuum "unlocks" the 4-wheel drive, so you may have a leak in the line to the actuator so the 4-wheel drive is always on. Seems backwards, I know.

Taking off front rotors to replace them
The rotor are probably rusted to the hub.Try some pb blast and let the sit. If that doesn't work tru a big hammer. I had to remove the hubs and press the rotors off.

sounds like its stuck.this was never a good system. if you have the owners manual follow it to a T. ussually if you find a dirt lot engage the 4x4 run it for a few then shut it off. then back up ten to twenty feet this will set things right
