SOURCE: trying to remove an alternator
thought the same for my 99 burb alternator just took my crowbar and pryed it up slowly and it worked. Yea it gets snug and you feel like another bolt is holding it but there isnt one.

there is a pulley on the right side of engine (as sitting in drivers seat) it is either a 15 mm bolt used to rotate or a three eiths square drive and rotate tension off the belt
