When accelerating motor backfires thru TBI ? help . Idles smooth .

Most likely cause is a broken valve spring on one of the intake valves. Seat pressure is light enough to idle smooth but on acceleration the dynamics increase the pressures and the spring can not keep up. Hangs the valve open breifly and you get a backfire through the TBI.

Idles ok backfires thru exhaust under a load

Since it is so old, Start with a compression test. 90lbs is about minimal. The cylinders should be with in 10% of each other. If your there or lower, Time to retire or rebuild this engine. This part here will save you time, trouble and money into an engine that won't be any better when your done.

Sounds like the timing may be off. I would need to know what engine it has to help you diagnose this better.

1990 ford bronco idles fine when you accelerate the gas loses power and backfires through the intake

Fuel delivery problem, not enough fuel on acceleration could cause backfires. Many things cause backfires, mechanical and electronic. I need more info to give a better diagnosis. Did the problem happen all of a sudden or has the vehicle been running crappy for awhile.

Backfiring thru carburetor

the 90 has no CARB, the 89 1.3l ONLY did
but the 1.6L are all EFI , TBI throttle body systems.
If infact it does have a carb, someone added it, it's not stock.

the 89 to 95 TBI cars are near the same, 1.6L 8valves.
the 90 has a stand alone distributor, the ECU does not make
or regulate spark like a 91 does.

So you have backfiring , back up thru the throttle body to the air cleaner. this is a clear sign of never doing the tuneups.
The service manual is free as id the op. guide..
The 60k, mile tune (service points in today lingo) was skipped
am I right/
this skipped point allows the timing belt to slip.
the first sign of that is.
1: low compression.
2: and spark timing way off (last step in tuneup finds this)
3: backfiring, due to gross cam timing and dizzy timing errors.

The compression WOT, must be 150 PSI.
not 100.

did you ever set the crank bolt (front)
to the new TSB (circa 96 , and retrograde) spec?

then a full spark tuneup
then check spark timing, and if way off consider the
cam has slipped?

Truck idles rough, hesitates when accelerating occasional backfires

Check your fuel pressure it sounds like you might have a weak fuel pump or dirty or clogged fuel filter.

95 aurora idles rough; runs somewhat smoother as it warms up; yet it backfires if I attempt to accelerate entering expressways. it drives smooth if not accelerating.

We had a similar problem. There was a crack in the air intake plenum gasket. Spraying carb cleaner around it can tell if that's the problem. It will clear up for a few seconds if it is. Not too bad to replace.
