SOURCE: 2003 VW Jetta Serpentine Belt

is it a squeal noise or what? explain more in detail. and yes the belt is directional in that it's path is designed to run in one direction only, no matter which side you put on the belt itself, the belt can be installed in one way or flip it over to the opposite side...doesn't matter, only matters if you installed it correctly on the routing of the belt. And the grooved edge is to be facing down inside the main pulley's that have grooves. If you have the smooth side down into the pulley grooves, remove teh belt and turn it inside out so that the smooth side does not ride inside the grooves of the pulleys.Sometimes, the tensioner pulley will squeal or the idler pulley will squeal when they are going out. If you are actually hearing the fan come on and off, that's normal, the fan is set up to turn on and off according to engine temperature and some cars they continue to run for a bit after ignition is turned off as well to cool the engine down. check to see if the belt is set all the way on all the pulley's it rides on and not partly off on the edge, realign as needed.

SOURCE: need a diagram of the serpentine belt on a 96 caravan

The diagram should be located under the hood close to the radiator. It should be a black sticker with the diagram in white lettering. Look towards the passenger side near the front of the motor.

I will look at my manual for my 2000 Voyager. They should be close to the same. If you do not find the diagram under the hood comment back and I will get you a photo of the belt drive out of the manual for engine you have. If I can!! What engine do you have??

I lost power steering on a 2007 Equinox after changing the serpentine belt. Any suggestions?

Are you sure you have the belt installed correctly? Not hard to make a mistake. Did you get any oil or fluid on the belt? Did you change belt tensioner at same time? Usually a good idea.

1999 ford cougar v 6 fan belt fitting

OK, having REAL hard time looking up the diagrams today, however, given that the engine will turn (at the crankshaft) in a clockwise direction, 1) first locate the tensioner pulley(s) {there is usually only one per belt, and they are mounted to a bar/ arm that will move, SEE FIG A} AND the idler pulley(s) for each belt/ pulley track {the path over each set of pulleys as they are away from the engine face} ((e.g. if there are two pulleys on the crankshaft that are face to face, then there would be two tracks for a belt (one each) to go around all of the pulleys on that track)){e.g. #1 in FIG A is one belt track/ path. and # 3 is a different track/ path}

12_3_2011_8_31_38_pm.gif where #2 is the tensioner pulley in this example.

2) starting from the crankshaft, go along the bottom of the pulley towards the left of the engine face to the next pulley, if that pulley is smooth on the round part, then that means that the outside of the serpentine belt goes there, if it is grooved, then the inside of the serpentine belt goes there. and follow the path around the clock (so to speak ) for each path.

Some parts dealers will show you the diagrams for your vehicle, but some won't. the diagram(s) MAY be in your owners manual.
good luck.

    I need to know how to loosen the serpentine belt on my Expedition to change the alternator.

    take a wrench to the drive belt tensor which is a spring loaded pulley off center from the belt path. this is what provides the tension on the belt.

    Serpentine belt routing

    Hi,

    The detailed solution provided below will be of great help to you,just follow the steps carefully;

    1.Raise the hood of your Subaru and support it with the prop rod. Locate the negative battery cable at the negative battery terminal. Remove the retaining bolt from the battery cable end with a wrench and separate the cable from the terminal.
    2.
    Find the serpentine belt tensioner on the front of the engine and place a socket on the apex bolt in the center of the idler pulley. Attach a breaker bar to the socket and rotate the tensioner clockwise until the belt is loose, then remove it from the pulleys. Rotate the tensioner back to the home position and let it sit there for now.

    3.
    Install the new serpentine belt over all the pulleys except the tensioner pulley. It is important that the belt follow the correct path over the pulleys. If you are unsure of the path, look for the sticker under the hood with the belt-path diagram on it.

    4.
    Rotate the tensioner clockwise far enough to install the belt around the pulley on the tensioner, then slowly rotate the tensioner back to the home position. The tensioner will tighten the belt correctly and no adjustment is required.

    5.
    Install the negative battery cable back on the negative battery terminal and install the retaining bolt. Tighten the bolt with a wrench, then close the hood.

    Problem solved,

    Good luck!!

    How to change serpentine belt

    There will be a serpentine belt tensioner somewhere on the motor. Its on a spring and what it does is push against the belt to keep it on and tight on the pulleys. Either pull it out of the way, or unbolt the tensioner and simply pull the belt off. You may need to look at the belt path diagram most likely on the bottom of the hood, or on the radiator support where the hood latches. Hope this helps,

    Burning rubber smelll under hood of 1999 nissan quest

    Check your serpentine belt. May have bearings out on a pulley on a component within the serpentine path. If the pulley locks, the belt is forced over it causing the burnt rubber smell.

    '93 Mercury Sable Serpentine Belt installation without using AC

    You need to have an automotive technitian install a new belt because there is a certain path the belt must follow before it will go on, plus the belt must go around the A/c as it is part of the path. You just don't have to use the A/C.

    Tell the tech that the belt broke so that he can look for a reason as to why the belt broke.
