Question about 1996 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

Camry red dashboard light does not go out

There is a small red light bulb on the lower left side of the dashboard, just above the ashtray. The light is not normally on. Last couple of days it has been on, even when the car is turned off.

I believe this has led to my battery being drained.

There is nothing in the car as to what the light indicates.
I checked the manual and the light is not mentioned.

Any idea what is going on, and how I can turn this off?

    Here is more data:

This is a small red peanut bulb. It protrudes slightly from the lower left dashboard, The light is lit, and has been for the last day or so, even when the engine is turned off. This light has no text or other information which might indicate what it is supposed to indicate.

As noted, I checked the Camry manual and there is no indication of what this light does. However, this morning I had to jump start my car to get it started.

So either this light itself is draining the battery; OR
it indicates a malfunction somewhere else.

Anyway, I appreciate any input on this.

THAT MAY BE YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM LED. IT WILL NOT PULL ENOUGH CURRENT TO DRAIN THE BATTERY.

Where is the radio fuse on a 1995 camry? I do not see a fuse box under dash.

1.Answer It is a 15A fuse (#24), located in the instrument panel fuse box (behind the small fold out draw on lower the left side of dash board. Left of the steering wheel). It is the far right fuse on the middle row.

2. I had the same problem when my dome light went off. When I pulled its blown fuse, the radio went out. The radio fuse was fine, but when I replaced the dome light fuse, the radio came back on again. The dome light fuse is a 20A in the fuse box under the hood next to the battery.

3.there is on fuse in the back of the radio itself

The tail light fuse is located in the fuse panel at the left lower dash behind the coin box cover, it's marked TAIL on the cover there is a tail light relay in the trunk on the left side above the fender well behind the carpet.

Turn Signal Flasher Location

turn signal flasher, I just replaced mine last night without having to mess with the fusebox or glovebox. It turns out that it was attached by a clip on the right side of the ashtray frame inside the dashboard. I took out the removable "cup" part of the ashtray, then removed the two upper and two lower ashtray frame screws. Next, I pulled the frame forward and disconnected the small ashtray light. The power wire for the cigarette lighter can stay attached. After I slide the frame out the rest of the way it was easy to get to and replace the flasher unit.

96 gmc sanoma, can not locate turn signal flasher under dash.

Flasher units are always in one of 2 places, under glove box on pass side or in loom under steering wheel close to fuse panel.

On Sonoma it is under the lower dash panel, just to the left of the cigarette lighter. To get to it you must remove the ashtray. Then remove screws holding the plastic panel that is below the dashboard. You will see two round "can " shaped flasher units. The one on the right is for the signal lights. The one on the left is for the emergency flashers.

1 hex nut under ashtray and 2 torx to left of that. No need to completely remove the lower dash panel you took the screws out of. Just bend it down a little to get your hand in. You will see the 2 flasher pods.

My 1976 Coupe de Ville has no warning lights (row on top of dashboard above speedo) except the generator. How do you replace the bulbs, the workshop manual is not very clear but suggests the whole dash...

Headlight switch bulb:-- The headlight switch will come out of the dash by pulling firmly on it, you may need to twist it slightly, don't be too worried if it seems very resistant to coming out, just pull hard!
Once you have the switch out of the dash, you can disconnect the connector block from the back of the switch by pulling on it.
The next thing to do is to remove the bulb holder from the back of the switch, you will see two small black plastic prongs , the easiest way to do this is to use a long nose pliers and pinch the prongs together, then pull the bulb holder out of the switch.
Pop in the new bulb , reassembly is the reverse of disassembly! if you have a problem getting the bulb holder back in, you may need to pinch the plastic parts around the bulb to ease it in.

Clock and warning light bulbs :-- This is actually very straight-forward, first of all remove the speaker grill from the drivers side, just two small torx screws holding it in. If you look through the windscreen from the outside of the car you can see the various bulb/holders (these come in one piece). Obviously you need to work out which ones you need to replace. The larger ones near the top are the main clock bulbs, and the smaller bulb holders a little lower down are for the various warning lights. To remove these all they need is a quarter turn and they will pop out.

Heating, fan switch, ashtray etc. bulbs:-- There are two possible methods of replacing the bulbs for these components, if you have small hands and are very dextrous the easiest way is to remove the stereo and stereo casing, then feel around for the various bulb holders and replace the bulbs, if like me you think you will find this too awkward, you will need to remove the kickboard/kneeboard, as this will give slightly easier access. To do this follow the steps below:---
First of all remove the lower shroud from the steering wheel, 2 torx screws on either side of the wheel and a large plastic screw that needs a quarter turn on the shroud itself (under the wheel). Next remove the ashtray, then remove the ashtray holder by removing the 4 screws and the centre 10mm bolt , you can now replace the ashtray bulb if required. Once you have the ashtray holder out you will see another larger bolt behind it, you need to remove this also.
You now need to remove the centre console, first of all pull out the rubber between the console and the gearshift, then remove the 2 screws You may also need to remove the 4 screws attaching the plastic console to the carpeted section to ease removal. Once the console is out of the way, you need to remove the kick board. There are just 2 10mm bolts holding this in, you need to lift the bonnet to get at these there is one either side of the engine, right against the bulkhead

Now that you have reasonable access to the bulb holders you should be able to change the bulbs ok, BTW you can also get at the bulb for the 'fasten seatbelts' light from here. Good luck!!
Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Look on the driver side and locate the button for adjusting the front headlight(height adjustment control for headlights). Underneath that button somewhere is a plastic screw. Another hint that straight down below this screw there is a small lower dashboard box to keep your stuff. Turn this screw to 90 degree and then pull out this piece of dashboard cover (and your small dashboard box comes out too). There you can find the OBD connector.

1990 TOYOTA CAMRY-DASHBOARD ICON IN LOWER RIGHT HAND CORNER

Its telling you a brake light bulb is burnt out.

If you find that all the rear brake bulbs are working...the problem is the sensor, located in the trunk, left side, behind the left side plastic wall (Removeable). It is a 2 X 2 cream colored box. Dealer only part. $80-$100 each. Have known 6 other Camry's to have a bad sensor box. Common problem.

Need to replace dash board backlights - 2004 hyundai elantra

trying to do the same on my 01. ready to change the bulb but can't find it anywhere.
anyhow, here's how you do it:

remove the dash by taking out 2 screws behind the ashtray and 2 above the instrument cluster
begin prying off the dash from the ashtray up, when you reach the heater vents stop. next take a flat head screwdriver and pry off the dash from the left side with the door open. work left to right till you reach the heater vents and it'll come right off. you don't necessarily have to unplug any of the electric connectors if you don't want to, but you;ll have to reach around the dash while working. all you need to do now is remove the heater control unit via the 4 screws around it, then unplug the electric harnesses from the back of it. make sure you remember which goes where. the bulbs are the 3 white (or is it 2 white and 1 grey) circles on the back of the control unit. just turn them with a flathead screwdriver and turn it over and give it a little bump to get 'em to fall out (or grab 'em with a needle nose pliers if necessary). anyhow, that's how it's done, question is, where do ya find the bulbs?
