I don't know how to install or take apart the brakes, pads and rotors I have the parts but not the know how

Change front rotors on 97aurora


I hope you mean change front rotors, AND change front disc pads...This front brake set-up is fairly easy for a novice to do also. Why mention rotors? Are you experiencing a vaibration when applying the brake pedal? Yes, this is a sign of warped, worn out rotors...also inspect caliper piston movement, and top off brake reservoir after parts change. The caliper hold down bracket must be removed to change the rotors...2 bolts with good breaker bar, maybe 16 17mm socket and 13mm socket for removal of the caliper (2) bolts...lubricate and clean all parts and slide pins...be sure to thoroughly spray new rotors with brake parts cleaner before installing...this removes the packing oil from the rotors...(will ruin new brake pads and smell) Hope this helps.

Need to perform rear brake pad change on 2006 Volvo V70 AWD 2,5T wagon


brakes are brakes, push in , turn in, or two piece calipers. remove wheel , remove two bolts that hold caliper in place, remove replace pads if rotors look good if not remove caliper retainer and rotor replace or have resurfaced at local part store with service. if push in piston push in with c-clamp or piston tool, if turn in will be solid on top with slots for tool to turn in turn to right, tool can be gotten at parts store, if two piece take apart and put back then bleed brakes.

I just spent $500 replacing rear rotors and rear brakes on a 2009 Suzuki SX4. This vehicle has 39,000km. Is there a problem with suzuki rotors? 39,000km seems a little too ealy for me to need new rotors....


120,000 K would be about time for new rotors, if they
were machined once along the way

I have no idea about recalls or problems,so maybe I
shouldn't respond at all

My personal opinion & I do not mean to be hurtful in any
way,is that you can not just drive a vehicle & never
take it apart,even a brand new

All brakes have to come apart once a year to remove rust
& clean,inspect & lube things
Brake Pads & Calipers simply won't slide or release 4 months
after any brake work or at least very well

I don't see any indication that the pros do that kind of work,
or ever have & certainly never educate you on any subject

I am saying your brakes were dragging & shouldn't have been
& you parking brake need to release properly

You can spend $400.00 just for quality parts at repair shop
cost, with no problem
15 years ago you had a hard time spending $200.00 to do
all 4 wheels

A light in the dashboard turns on today and I have no idea what is the symbol for? is like a circle with 3 rectangles in line on each side this is a BMW 318i, 1996


This is the brake wear indicator. When the brake pads get too thin, this sensor, which is mounted in the brake pad backing on the front left wheel and the rear right wheel, touches the rotor and wears through, grounding out the contacts and illuminating the light.
Once the light is lit, you will need to buy a new sensor as well as new brake pads. The sensor is not expensive.
First step is to examine the brake pads and determine if you need front pads or rear pads or both. Don't be surprised if you need new rotors as well as pads. Check for a significant lip at the outer edge of the rotor. If the pads have worn in the sides of the rotor more than about 1/16", you are due for rotors.
You cannot go wrong with BMW branded pads. They are safe and work great, but they are really dirty. If you want to try other brands, read the reviews. Some squeak and some fade.
I use Mexican made Brembo rotors. They work well but they rust quickly, so the brakes squeak a bit the first time you press them after washing the car or driving in the rain. More expensive rotors or BMW branded rotors don't rust so much, but they cost a lot more and don't necessarily last any longer.
After replacing the pads, turn the key to the On position and leave it on for about 90 seconds before starting the car to reset the brake pad warning light.

How can I change the rotors and brakes on a 2006 Cadillac?

Step 1: Identify Front Disc Brake Components

Most front disc brake components include: brake rotor, brake pads, brake caliper, caliper mount and brake flex hose. Brake service usual occurs between 20,000 and 40,000 miles depending on driver habits, road conditions and brake pad/ rotor materials used.
Step 2: Remove Brake Caliper to Replace Pads

Locate primary caliper mounting bolts; apply wrench pressure counter-clockwise (When looking at the head of the bolt) to remove the bolts, upper and lower. Make sure the bolt threads are in good shape and replace if necessary.
Step 3: Remove Front Brake Caliper

After removing the primary caliper mounting bolts lift the brake caliper off of the rotor and then tie or secure to the side, being careful not to bend or kink the brake caliper flex hose. Thoroughly inspect brake caliper and brake hoses for leakage, cracks or chaffing and replace as needed. Next remove the brake pads (If not mounted in the caliper) and secondary caliper mounting bolts. Notice how great protective gloves work, most technicians use them on the job today.
Step 4: Remove Brake Pads

Once the brake pads have been removed, make sure if there is anti rattle hardware to transfer to the new brake pads. Some brake pad manufacturers will include the proper lube (Caliper slides) and anti-rattle hardware to ensure proper performance of their product.

Finish removing secondary caliper mount bolts and remove caliper mount. Note: clean and lube caliper slides and pad friction surfaces of all foreign material or build-up.
Step 6: Remove Brake Rotor

With the caliper mount out of the way you can now remove the brake rotor. Sometimes it can get stuck so you may need to tap it with a hammer or use penetrating oil to free it up. Some manufacturers use small screws to hold the rotor on as well. Clean and inspect wheel studs, replace if any are damaged. Also clean bearing hub rotor mount surface to ensure the proper mounting of the new brake rotor. Inspect the ABS sensor wheel for cracks or damage and replace as needed.
Step 7: Depressing the Brake Caliper

To install the new brake pads you must retract the brake caliper piston. Remove the master cylinder lid or open the brake caliper bleeder screw to allow excess brake fluid to be released if necessary. Install C clamp tool and gently tighten clamp until caliper piston is fully depressed. Note: use old brake pad to protect the caliper piston. Close the bleeders once the piston is retracted completely
Step 8: Installing New Brake Rotor

Install new brake rotor, the new rotor is manufactured with a protective film over the rotor to keep it from rusting, remove protective film with brake cleaner before installing; also after the brake job is complete you may experience a small amount of smoke from the rotor when first used. This is normal and will go away after the first couple of uses.
Step 9: Installing New Front Brake Pads

Reinstall the front brake caliper mount, and then install front brake pads. Make sure the pads are seated properly in the caliper mount; it must be a close fit to work properly..
Step 10: Reinstall Front Brake Caliper

Re-Install front Bake Caliper
Reinstall front brake caliper and reinstall caliper-mounting bolts, recheck all mounts and mounting bolts. Check the caliper slides to be sure there is no bind and that the caliper moves freely back and forth on the caliper slides. Bleed brake system per manufacturer's specifications to relieve any air trapped in the system. Before driving the vehicle, push the brake pedal down and let it up slowly, repeat until normal brake pedal operation resumes, this operation is forcing the brake pads to travel to the brake rotors.

On a 1994 Chevy s10 pick up, how do you change the front brakes?


jack up frt end. remove wheels. take note of how the brakes go together. do 1 side at a time so you can use the other side as a referance. remove caliper bolts. use a c-clamp to push in caliper pistons. remove old pads. than remove caliper bracket and rotors.dont be afraid its not a big deal. make sure to check brake fluid level and pump the pedal when the job is completed.

Does the 2003 gmc yukon have rear rotors? and do the brakes need to be changed if the rotors need to be machined?


Yes, it has rear Disc Brakes, I would suggest to change the rear pads since they have to remove the rear Brake Calipers to remove the rotors and it wouldn't take much more time or labor to replace the pads at that point. That way when your rear rotors are re-installed and your new brake pads are installed your rear brakes should give you longer service life and better stopping power.

Tools req. and approx difficulty level(1-10)for brake check and change pads please on toyota previa 2.3 petrol 7 seater


to check the brakes you can look through the wheel to see the pad thickness(1/8th min)then run you finger over the disc(rotor)to make sure you don have to much of a lip around the edge.(1/32 max.)as rotors only last around 40k and pads around 30k, i would change both together,difficulty 3/10 for diy mech.tools req pliers/mole grips(to grip brake pipe)/tyre iron(to force pistons apart,take off filler cap first)phillips screwdriver to take out screw in rotor,and a hammer
to release rotor from rust on the back of it.a range of metric spanners/sockets.to remove caliper from bracket and copper grease for the back of the new pads(to stop them squeeking).
put together the opposite of taking them apart,keep all bits in hubcap on top of wheel(you never have bits left over if you do this...)and prise apart pistons before you take caliper off the car,then apply molegrip to rubber pipe so they dont close up.

To replace rotors and pads, wheel wrench, sockets, hammer, with 4x4, remove wheel,pry pads apart, remove caliper, smack off rotor, and reverse install. 2x4, remove wheel, caliper, hub dust cover, cotter pin, castle nut, and remove rotor and bearings, clean and repack your brgs and replace dust seal, install in new rotor and reverse install. Very easy. Jack up the front of the car and support it with two sturdy jackstands. Remove the front wheels. To the brake fluid nipple on the caliper (the part that squeezed the pads against the rotor), attach a small tube leading to a drainpan, open the nipple, and push back the brake pads from the rotor with a broad screwdriver. Close the nipple. Be careful not to damage the pads if you are not replacing them. (It would be wise to replace the pads when you replace the rotors, though).

Two bolts hold the brake caliper onto the steering knuckle. Remove both bolts, preferably with an impact wrench, and remove the caliper. On some cars the bolts have indented 10mm hex-wrench heads rather than standard bolt heads, so you may need to acquire a new tool. Be careful to support the caliper so you do not damage the hydraulic brake hose. Slip the old rotor off the studs and replace it with your new one. New rotors are packed in oil which will damage your brake pads, so clean the new rotors with vinegar before installing them. Replace the caliper and pads. Check to see you have sufficient brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir before operating the vehicle. If the brakes seem at all spongy, bring your car to a qualified mechanic to inspect your work and to bleed the brake hydraulic syatem. Always do both front rotors, never just one. Otherwise, your car will **** violently to one side when you brake.
