My 2002 Ford Escape headlamps problems. When I turn the switch to the on position the headlamps come on for a second and then turn off. I can turn them on and off a few times and they will stay on while I am driving.

If the radio does not light up with the headlamp switch and all other dash lights work, the radio must be replaced.
The Tribute is the same as a Ford Escape, so finding a used replacement should be easy.
Which bulbs are you refering to?
Headlights? I went with Sylvania SilverStar H4 bulbs. I was really impressed with the brightness. The bad news... I seem to have to replace them more often; like, 1 or 2 per year.
Another alternative is to upgrade to the 2005-2006 headlamp assemblies. Rumor says they will fit. They use a different bulb.
If it is the light bulb, meaning the replaceable glass bulb that gets plugged by the wire connector, the clip may not be properly seated on the housing of the bulb. Take the time to match up the tangs of the bulb housing to the hole it plugs in to.
The dash and insrument illumination lights are both controlled off the same circuit within the headlamp switch. You can try finding a happy spot for the lights by very slowly pulling out the switch after the running light position and turning the knob back and forth, but, this is purely temporary. You need a new switch and it's very easy to change. If you disconnect the battery positive cable. Pull the switch all the way out to the headlamp position. After doing this reach around the back of the switch on each side and you'll find a small button that you can push in. This button allows You to remove the knob/shaft combination. Then just take out the 6-8 screws that hold the cluster face plate(or it may just pry off) and unscrew the collar that secures the headlamp switch to the dashframe.. The harness comes of in one piece and that's it. Good Luck Dana
