Question about 2001 Saturn SL
I have taken it to 2 different car repair centers( 1 of them twice). they cannot diagnose it. has poor idle also stalled while turning a corner, it also had no start, no crank and customer towed in.
One shop cleaned the battery terminals. second time the engine would crank but not start. THe auto center replaced the oxygen sensor OE type before catalyst, exhaust pipe and pcv valve. they had my car for nearly a week.
the second shop did nothing. reason - dies at stop lights, intermitten engine does not spin over but took anbout 30 minutes to restart. . these people think i need a crank shaft position sensor. i did not get it cause they are not sure.
i still worry ..wondering when will the next time will be, when it stalls.
it stalls an average of three times a week now .my sister in law says it's the alternator. they said no. my boyfriend says it could possibly be a clogged fuel filter.
should i take it to Saturn dealers? i cannot afford what they wll charge me.
Someone I know said he had a jeep and the very same thing happened to him. he got rid of it , but he said it was the cadillac converter.
i cannot afford to get a new or used car. Can you help me please
You can't afford to not take it to a Saturn dealer. Look at all the worry your going through not to mention possibly lost time from your job. I had the same problems with my 98 SL1. First time it went to the Saturn dealer they diagnosed a bad coolent tempurature sensor. The car was fine for about 2 months then it would start and then stall bfore I could get out of the driveway. This time the dealer diagnosed a bad crank position sensor. That was 3 years ago and the car has run well since. I believe your car could have one of these problems (maybe both). Take it to the dealer. They probably see Saturns with these problems every week and will know how to fix them.

You said it both ways but, when it stalls, it cranks but won't start right? First, the o2 sensor, exhaust pipe, catalytic converter, alternator, and pcv valve cannot cause this problem. Have any of the shops actually got it to stall? If I was going to guess I would say crank sensor or ignition module. This is a 2001 saturn. Do SL series or L series? What size is the engine and is it SOHC or DOHC? What you or someone else needs to do is during the 30 minutes that it won't start is narrow it down to either a spark issue or a fuel issue.
