92 honda civic turns over fine but doesnt start

My honda civic has a problem when you turn the key to the on position you have to wait until the check engine light goes out before it starts and that can be 10 seconds or 15 minutes. once i get it started and warmed it starts fine for that day. note... the owner just replaced the fuel pump himself (he is not a mechanic)

Ok, this is a commom problem with this 92 hondas,

it may be the pump fuel relay, which is under the dash on the driver side by the fuse panel.

here is a way to determine that.

when you turn the key on the on position

do you hear the fuel pump running while the engine light is on, and does the pump stop running afteer the engine light goes off?

if you do hear the pump running then it means that fuel pump is working fine ( since it way just replaced), but if you don't hear it running while the check engine light is on ( about 2 seconds) chances are the fuel pump relay is not working as it should.

also there are clicks that have to be heard on the starting process.

1 when you turn key to on possition

2 when the check engine light goes off( a click has to be heard just after it goes off)

3 after the car starts

If you don't hear this clicks, try to get your ear close the location of the fuel pump relay( near the fuse panel under the dash).

the fuse relay is just a bunch of circuits soldered, so you can get it to someone who knows how to solder and fix it.

or just get a replacement one at any junkyard. ( cheapp)

Check the power cables on the fuel pump they might be loose, when you turn the key to on the fuel pump runs for a few seconds to get fuel to the engine, if it wont start the cables might be loose, if thats not the problem try plugging in a code reader when the check engine light is on and find out what the code means, you should have OBD1 on your car

Hi,

Actually I need more detail about your honda civic. I your green key light flashed and the will not start. the problem is usually on fuel pump for honda civic 1999- 2003. What year is your car?.
To make your car enable running, just turn on your key ( BUT don not start) , wait for moment until your fuel is primed and light goes Off, then start your car. It should be work.

How to reset engine service code

With the key in the off position, hold down the Select/Reset button on the dash near the gauges, While holding it down, turn the key to the on position (not starting the car) and wait about 5-10 seconds and it should turn the light off. You may then turn the key back to the off position or start the car.

My 92 honda civic doesnt start the engine turns but wont start

there are a few different things it could be first thing to check would be if the timing belt is broken this is done by removing the oil fill cap and having someone else crank the engine and at the same time some one else is looking in the oil fill hole to see if the valve train is moving. if its not the belt is broken. another common problem is the fuel system main relay. or an ignitor or coil

Car doesnt start at all !

check battery
check fuses & wiring to starter
check power at starter main (big red wire)
check for power at starter solenoid (small) wire when key turned start position
if all above are good, try whacking starter body with a hammer lightly while trying to start, don't run yourself over if it does!
replace starter if all electrical good

if all electrical fail test/inspection, ei; no power to starter on small wire, yet big wire hot, check for bad ignition switch

check for

Timing 92 civic

You can't turn that distributor enough to make it not start. Full advance would be counter clockwise to the stops and Full ****** the other way. If it helps, just clamp it up halfway between the stops and you won't be far off. I think you may have another infamous Honda starting glitch.
