The economy light does not come on why? - Cars & Trucks

Before this problem started, the economy light used to come on after driving the car for about 5 minutes. It only went off if I pressed hard the accelerator. But recently the car had a problem of heating up and I took it to a mechanics to fix the problem. He did it and also he changed the cylinderhead guskette since it was already damaged. Since this repair was done, the economy light on the dashboard does not come on even if I drive the car for one hour. What is the problem? Does it mean that my car is consuming more fuel? I will appreciate your help. Thanks so much.

If the economy light is not coming on then YES, the engine is not running like it was designed to do. the air/ fuel mixture is somewhat out of specs to keep the light from coming on. suggest taking back to garage that did the head gasket repair and have them check the fuel trims(long and short term) to see what is going on. could be a deffective O2 sensor since there was head gasket issues.

The answer you gave was very helpful. I will take the car to the mechanics to examine the problem. Would you kindly tell me, if the economy light is not coming on is it neccesary that the car is consuming more fuel? Again thanks so much for the wonderful work that you do to help us. May God continue to guide you and reward you.

the car may be using a little more fuel, but if the O2 sensor is slow to respond then it will anyway.

2006 Aveo has low fuel economy. Changed out thermostat because it was not keeping temp at acceleration. Now the temp is stable, but still seems low at 180 F and still have bad gas mileage. No check engine...

Many things can contribute to low fuel economy, tire pressure, driving style, milage, and state of the servicing.
What sort of milage does the car have?
Has it had a tune up recently?
Air filter condition?
Fuel filter condition?
Transmission service if milage dictates?

What happens when thermostats dont work in chevy tahoe 2000

The temp gauge will read lower than normal especially at highway speed. The check engine light may come on with a P0134 code (I think). And there will be a noticeable loss of heater from the heater, if you live in colder climates.

If you track fuel economy you will also notice a noticeable reduction in fuel economy depending on how cool the engine gets.

How do I get decent gas mileage?

To put it as simple as I can --the faster you go the more fuel you use-- Not rocket science really.-- At the recommended speed the vehicle is in the optimal torque range and is returning the best economy for that speed . any thing over and it takes a big nose dive.. At the recommended speed you have maximum control of the vehicle and it will last the longest time . Now you have to improve the economy by paying attention to the following items
Tyre width , size pressure is critical to economy
Loads being carried at speed is critical to economy
Add-ons such as load racks add to fuel usage so take them off.
Fast take offs at lights uses fuel. If you let the engine bog down instead of changing gears will use fuel.
Not using the cruise control uses more fuel as every time you alter the accelerator pedal position that is extra fuel being used.
Using E fuel mixes will lower economy. So economy is a matter of your driving habits and not of the make of vehicle.
If you want better economy at the speed syou travel at then visit a speed shop and have the CPU re-chipped for more power at the higher rpm's but be aware that it may void your warranty on the vehicle.

My 2011 dodge ram 1500 check engine light came on and now my economy fuel saving setting will not come on any ideas

Yes, the economy fuel saving light will not come on because you are not saving fuel while driving with the check engine light on, you are WASTING fuel.

The reason the check engine light is on is to inform you that there is a malfunction in your engine control system. You need to get the problem properly diagnosed and repaired.

I have a 05 jeep wrangler the eng light is on comp says o2 senes b1 & b2 high voltage 250 km to a tank

If the oxygen sensors on the vehicle are faulty then that could easily cause the poor fuel economy. Replace both of the O2 sensors and clear the code with a scan tool. You should start getting better fuel economy. I hope this was helpful.

Hyundai coupe excessive fuel consumption

Unless the Check Engine Light is ON, there is no vehicle-related issue to fuel consumption. The computer will deliver the exact amount of fuel needed to satisfy the demands placed on the engine, using input from a large variety of sensors, including the accelerator pedal position sensor. Fuel economy estimates in the USA are just that, estimates, derived from a chemical analysis of emissions, and not actual driving. And no vehicle ever hits those numbers.

There are numerous outside factors that have a negative impact on fuel economy:
Vehicle maintenance, driving conditions (stop & go driving KILLS fuel economy), accelerator pedal usage, overall vehicle speeds, loads carried, etc.

Remember, the more you use the gas pedal, the more you use the gas station!

Hondal accord wagon 1991 model the economy light is on for the past two weeks. i have repaired the iginition .

Hi there Just to be absolutely sure, I'm correct in assuming that the economy light should light-up when you are driving economically? If that is the case, then this works as a result of a vacuum sensor attached to the inlet manifold which sounds like it might be faulty. The sensor is effectively determining whether you are driving using a light throttle (economically) as apposed to partial or full throttle (uneconomically). Try identifying the vacuum sensor switch and check the wiring is intact and secure. If it is, simply disconnect the wires from the sensor. Drive the car and see if the light is now off all the time. If the light is still on all the time, switch off the engine and ignition, bridge the disconnected electrical connection and drive the car again. If the light is now off all the time, then it's probably the vacum sensor switch that's keeping the economy light on all the time. It's either an electrical connection, faulty switch or very simply that the vacuum hose to the switch is broken or fallen off. Best regards, Scottech

A light on dash saying o/d off came on

There is a small button on the gear shifter. This is the OverDrive switch. When the button is depressed "IN", the overdrive system is active, and the light on the dash is off. When the button is OUT, the overdrive system is de-activated, and the light on the dash is illuminated. The OverDrive is basically the final shift of the transmission, which gives you maximum fuel economy. When the light on the dash is ON, the OD is "OFF", the transmission will not make its final shift, and will lower your fuel economy. It is best to leave the button IN, and have the OD system active. Hope this helps, and Thanks for Choosing FixYa. The graciousness of a "FixYa" rating for my solution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for allowing me to help you with your issue.
