You can change the lock but you will not be able to start the car. See the dealer on this.

SOURCE: How to remove ignition cylinder from Toyota Camry 1993

Here are step-by-step instructions for the removal and re-installation of your ignition cylinder on your Toyota. Hope this sheds some light on the subject and solves your problem. Have a great day!

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an air bag, wait at least 90 seconds before working on the vehicle.
CAUTIONSome models covered by this guidemay be equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SRS components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SRS, as described in .
  1. Remove the lower steering column cover. Unfasten the ignition switch connector under the instrument panel.
  2. Remove the screws which secure the upper and lower halves of the steering column cover.
  3. Turn the lock cylinder to the ACC position with the ignition key.
  4. Push the lock cylinder stop in with a small, round object (cotter pin, punch, etc.).
On some vehicles, it may be necessary to remove the steering wheel and combination switch first.
  1. Withdraw the lock cylinder from the lock housing while depressing the stop tab.
  2. To remove the ignition switch, unfasten its securing screws and withdraw the switch from the lock housing.
To install:
  1. Align the locking cam with the hole in the ignition switch and insert the switch into the lock housing.
  2. Secure the switch with its screw(s).
  3. Make sure both the lock cylinder and column lock are in the ACC position. Slide the cylinder into the lock housing until the stop tab engages the hole in the lock.
  4. Install the steering column covers.
  5. Connect the ignition switch wiring.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable.

-1997 Toyota Camry XLE/ v6- Lost key, need to bypass immobilizer, any solutions?

In the 97 you should be able to buy a used steering column with a key and a pcm from the same donor. 1999 is generally the cut off to be able to do that. This is such a scam by manufacturers and dealers. EVERYONE loses keys from time to time and now they cost you around $500 to have replaced by the dealership. I recommend taping the transponder key to the dash near the ignition lock cylinder and using copy keys to operate. If the transponder is near enough to the antenna behind the key switch, it will TRANSPOND. Its a problem for vehicle owners more than potential thieves. You can also remove the transponder from the key and attach that to the outer part of the key switch if the other method doesnt work.

Lock then unlock the doors with the power lock button, with all doors closed (key not in ignition). If this doesnt work, try again using the key to lock and unlock from the driver door, with all doors closed.

97 Camry ignition key will not turn need to get to turn to ACC so I can push pin and remove cylinder

Try any other keys that you have and put them in both ways. Spraying the lock with blaster and smacking the lock with the key removed may free it up then try the key again. A locksmith will do something like it and Pick the lock. They usally get $80 or so to do the work and they come to you.

Change ignition 1998 toyota camry

Yes.
To remove the ign lock cyl, remove the lower plastic dash panel to gain access to the lock cyl housing. Inset key and turn to acc posistion. (one click off lock). Locate the release pin hole on the right/bottom of the housing and with a small screwdriver push it in while pulling out with the key. I cyl sould pull out. Reverse for install. Make sure the new lock cylinders pin is pushed in to install. It only pushes in in the acc position.
