We had the same problem and replaced the ignition and now it won't start. Our friend who is a mechanic says the anti-theft was activated. Can we reset that ourselves? Tested the starter and it is good. HELP.

Will the key go in and out of the ignition? If you can take the key from the ignition, I would use WD40 and lubricate the ignition lock until it is almost overly lubricated and take the key and push it in the lock and tap the end of the key into the lock with a hammer (remember, I said TAP). These things might get your car ignition to work long enough to get your car ignition into the ON position. at that point removal of the ignition cylinder is very easy. if you can't get the key to turn go to this page to see about drilling out the lock so it will turn. http://www.autosafety.org/2000-2005-ford-focus-ignition-lock-cylinder.

Go to this website and get in contact with Tousley Ford. They have great prices on ford parts if you are in the USA.

I just changed out the ignition cylinder in my 2002 Focus and it was a five minute job because I could get the old cylinder in the ON position and didn't have to drill it out. and Tousley ford did me great on the price!
Good luck.

SOURCE: I have a 2000 Ford Focus that the key won't turn.

This could take some patience but it will work. Get some glass cleaner in a spray can. Spray liberally into the lock cylinder. Then using a small hammer or something with a little weight apply turing pressure lightly while tapping the key. Remember lightly. Then once its turned you should be able to get the key to turn. Remember to be patient. It could take up to 15 minutes but it will work. Use an aerosol spray cleaner. These work the best. Good luck.

SOURCE: how do i replace ignition switch 2000 ford focus

Take the lower cover off and the tilt lever if equiped. Then turn the igniton one click and use a pen to push the pin up from the under side of the lock cylinder and the cylinder will come out rather easy. If your actually tring to get the switch out remove the lower cover and then remove the screws holding the switch to the colum. Unplug the switch harness at the bottom of the colum and remove.

I have 2003 ford focus -the key will go in ignition but won't turn. Also wheels are straight but steering wheel is turned n will not move..can anyone please help me?

It sounds like the steering wheel lock is in a bind. I suggest you put one hand on the key and the other on top of the steering wheel. You then try moving the wheel slightly to one side then the other as you try to turn the key. It might take a bit of oomph to get the steering wheel to move. I hope this helps.

I have a ford focus 2003- today when I exited the car nothing was unusual..when I went to try to go to work the key will go in ignition but won't turn AT ALL. Anyone know what I can do to fix it?

your steering wheel has tension on it - are your front wheels parked against a curb or were you turning your steering wheel while you shut off the car? Try pulling hard left and turning the key. If that doesn't work, pull hard right while turning the key. You may have to pull really hard if you are a smaller person.

Replace the ignition tumbler is the best way to repair your problem. You could try spraying a lubricant such as wd40 in the hole and try and lube up the pins inside. Good luck.
