Question about 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

4.7 liter jeep motor making tappinf sound and motor is missing

Wife was driving her 2002 jeep cherokee, and it started making a tapping sound, so she stopped and had someone look at it, It was out of oil, replaced the oil, and now it continues to make tapping sound and the engine is misfiring. Took the valve cover off because that seems to be where it is coming from, but nothing looked out of order. The tapping noise goes along with the engine rpm's, the faster the rpm's the faster the tapping gets. what could this be?

I took mine back to the Dealer they replaced the lifts and about 4 months it has started again. I'm looking in to this problem again. My father thinks the cams need to be done now too. He says they should have been done the first time and this is a way the dealer trys to scam more money.

I have a 2002 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo 8 cylinder engine and it just started making a tapping noise when it's running. The oil hasn't been changed in awhile. Could this make a difference or any other...

yes it most certainly can, thick oil can block hydrolic lifters and make tappets become loose and even fail. that is a good start point because the next is a worn cam shaft

2002 grand cherokee engine tapping loudly

My first guess would be a failing valve lifter. They can become weak with age and not able to hold oil pressure.
Especially in an engine with that many miles on the clock.
If the noise is constant you may be able to find out which cylinder by running a compression test. maybe.

the first grand cherokee laredo was in 1992 . it was all jeep sports back then, the blocks are all the same .you will need to use some of the sensors from the old motor, the distributor and oil sending unit and temp sensor. will be no problem. if I can put a ford ranger motor in a mercury sable your swap is easier

My Jeep 2002 Engine is making altot of noise, it sound like this "clak, clak, clak" At first the engine light when on, my mechanic told me it was the gas cap, and that it would be fine. But...

Its hard to tell, but first most part I would get a second option on what is going on with the motor. 99% of the time your gas cap will not cause the engine light to come on at all. I don't believe Jeep Liberty's even have a sensor to detect that. Don't drive it, a clak clak clak sound coming from the motor it self could be as simple as adjusting a few things or something more serious. Good luck and feel free to ask more questions for help.

Transfer case wont work

might want to make shure the shifter linkage arm is in gear. if the linkage is bent at all it will hold the trans inbetween gears not allowing the motor to spin the drive shaft

Power seats

Look under the seat while using the switch.
Put your finger on the motor and see if the noise .
I beleive the motor comes complete as an assembly.
The seat would have to come out to replace.
