Electric window fault

Hi
I got a audi a4 from 96, just bought it and all is almost perfect but the drivers side electric window doesn't function. However from the console on the driver's side I can open/close the passenger side window.
Help !

Thanks for all the excellent help so far... I opened up the window operating console and found that the driver's side connections were disconnected ... reconnected them but the window wouldn't open... I could hear the window motor working but the window wouldn't open without help (me pushing it). The same when I tried to close it. Obviously the previous owner had disconnected the window's electrics and been happy to leave it like that. So I'm thinking Its some problem with the mechanical workings inside the door what do you think ?
    Thanks
    Eddie

take the door card off and check the power supply at the regulator,if i remember that system is not on can-bus so you should have battery voltage and a earth, plus two other wires,1 up and 1 down

possible a window regulator, can you hear a clicking noise from the door panel ? if you can the chances are it is the regulator...

Hi i have an audi a4 and the drivers window fails to open and close properly and there is a strange clicking when doing so. It sounds like there is a stone inside the window but i think it may be a mechanical fault with the electic window ........help

Usually you should be able to reset the computer by holding the close button up for a few seconds, this will reset the window and it should work again.

I have an Audi A3 y reg the passenger side front window has stopped working. Which fuse do i change ? or do i do something else.. Thanks

please explain what a Y reg is please ,anyway i think you will find the fault is connected with drivers side master switch if the contacts go in this switch you will loose all control of the window including the passenger side control as no feed is passed to the other side of the car .

Check your fuse box....unless you hear it trying to close or open, function whatever... but im sure you have a blown fuse. especially if they stoped working at the same time.

1999 Audi A3 1.8T Electric Windows and Central Locking Won't work

will your passenger door open with the key and is it just one side that your windows are not working or both. if its just one side it might be your regulator motor in the door thats not working if its both it might be your central locking pump usually in the boot. however if both of them are working fine it could be that your key needs reprogrammed however i think the 1st 2 are more likely to be the problem.

Center locking not working electric window not working

I had the same problem with my 2002 2.5 tdi, i spent weeks looking for the fault an found it to be 2 broken wires inside the drivers door rubber wiring loom ( near door hindges ). it was causing same fault no int/light - no central locking to drivers door - no electric windows.
i managed to repair wires and it now fine..

Toyota Celica 1988 - Drivers window not working.

Check under the Hood and see if you can Locate the Fuse Relay Box. There is a Relay in this Box for the Windows. Replace this Relay. You really need to try and Locate the Same Model Switch for the Drivers Door as that is the Problem there. Try and Find a Dealership in the States and see if they will Ship you one. Should not be a Problem. Just do a General Search for Dealerships in the USA and Pick. Let me know if the Relay does not work so we can go another Route for Repair. Please Rate my Solution, I need all the Help that I can Get! Thanks!

There's a TSB on that problem. It involves broken wires in the A and B pillar from the central convenience module to the rest of the car. Ask your VW dealership or what not for a more specific answer.
