95 aerostar 3litre problems with emmisions test

Hi.

we have a 95 aerostar 3 litre didn't pass emissions test.

NO.ppm Limit 0780 reading 1219 ?

Does this van have a egr valve? Husband sez its covered up by a plate?

what else should we check to bring down the limit and pass the emissions test.

Any help would be appreciated.

The egr is the only way to lower the no. heet only works with co and hydrocarbons see if the egr tube is full of carbon or the egr system is blocked up with carbon I have owned aerostars for 10 years and have had both the 3.0 and the 4,0 vans and .be thankful you have the 3.0 you would have to take off the upper intake to deal with the egr on the 4.0

1) Get the gas tank as close to empty as possible. 2) Mix 3 bottles of HEET gas line antifreeze with a gallon of gas and pour it in the tank. 3)take the emissions test. 4)Immediately fill the tank completely full of gas to dilute the HEET. 5) Top off the tank again after about 100 miles. This has never failed for me or the people that I have suggested this to. The HEET is isopropyl alcohol and it burns cleaner than gas.

1994 honda accord failed its emisions test.

i would say change the O2 sensors and a new cat ,these readings are well over the top ,could have a exhaust blow on exhaust as well which will throw out the O2 readings

1996 cavalier failed e-test with high readings on No PPM. limit is 526, reading was 1953...where do i start for repairs to re-test..

Depending on the engine , if it is running diesel , put a couple of litres of cooking oil in tank the when it is low and run the car for a few miles.

Take it in while it is running on that mix and the emissions will drop to virtually nil.

If it is petrol it may need a proper service and tune up or the catalyser in the exhaust may be shot

What will bring readings into limit

A failing oxygen (O2) -sensor will give failing emission tests. Normally you also get other symptoms:

- too high fuel consumtion
- bad acceleration, stalling problems, sputtering
- the check engine light comes on indicating that the engine control unit has recorded error codes (which will be related to readings of incorrect fuel/air ratio when read by the OBD diagnostics tool at a repair shop).

It is always a good idea to see if you can get any readings from the check engine light if present or much better by an OBD reader to be as certain as possible.

Another component that could cause failing emissions tests is the catalytic converter, giving a similar range of symptoms. To determine if this is the cause is not so easy on older cars with only one O2 sensor, it requires diagnostic skills and equipment. On newer cars with OBDII-systems it will give a recognizable fault code for the cat converter.

Then there are also the issues of the actual cause of malfunction in either or both of these components, is it due to old age and normal wear and tear or is it due to contamination from burning oil (blue tail pipe smoke) or anti-freeze (white smoke), misfiring, etc? Then the cause must be treated as well for a successful repair.

Normally these components have a very long life span and should not have to be replaced more than once or maybe twice for the sensors during the car's lifetime in an otherwise health engine.

Good luck!

Emissions level HC (PPM) too high in truck. How to fix?

Do an oil change with 20W50 oil (or one grade higher) to prevent blow by during the test.

You current oil has HC from blow by though the rings.

Do a fresh oil change will lower the HC.

========
Change spark plugs,wires,cap and rotor if they are over 24,000 miles
========

Make the smog check appointment for the EARLY MORNING. Colder air will help the fuel burn better.

========

Clean or change the air filter and pcv valve.

Clean Mass Air Flow sensor with CRC Mass Air flow cleaner or electronic part cleaner.

========

Do a quick wipe down on the wires and cap to take the moisture off.

========

Check spark plug wire contacts for corrosion.

========

Fill the tank to around 3/4.......just in case your fuel pump is weak.

========

Ran the truck for 20+ minutes on highway before the test.

========

Do not carry excessive cargo on the truck bed.

These are the little things I would do to get the HC and CO down.
