Question about 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor

1 Answer

Hatch problem if your hatch is closed and your glass is open and locks are unlocked and you try to shut your glass if it pops open the upper switch should be bad . otherwise if the glass closes it could be the lower hatch switch, In either case when testing make sure the locks are unlocked.

I cant open either - glass or rear hatch

  • sdowney74 Jan 25, 2009

Opened back hatch and closed it one day. Then got in the car and the open door sensor was on. I checked the back hatch and the glass had actually popped open. When I tried to close the glass it wouldn't close at first. Then finally it closed. Now neither will open. I have to climb through and open with the indoor safety latch.

same as other person. Worked great for almost a year and then one day

i couldn't open my trunk at all then the next day the glass kept poppin open and as soon as i would close it it would pop back open. After a week of either being locked out of my trunk or the glass being open, it finally quit and now neither has opend for 2 weeks!

The glass did close and neither the glass or rear hatch would open. It did turn out to be the lower hatch switch which I had replaced.
Thanks for the follow up.

The power lock has gone out on my vans back hatch, can't even get the key to unlock the door. How do I get the door unlocked?

You can't pop out the lock cylinder. Not from the outside. You have to get back there and remove the hatch panel. The top just pops off. A couple off screws on the top of the bottom panel the start popping it loose. There are screws on the bottom so you can't get it out. You have to reach down and release the latch to open the hatch. After it is open then remove the bottom screw and pop off the rest of the panel. Then you can fix what you need to. Include a new cylinder.

How to repair rear actuator for ford escape hatch

Bad lock actuator: (NOTE: If your hatch is locked)
First remove rear panel- pull the plastic panel at the top center, until (2)clips pop off, then pop (2) more clips at the mid-center. Stick your arm down until you reach the lock, with your fingers, feel for the squishy plastic( inside is the bar that goes up to unlock), it is attached to the lever to unlock. Pull up the lever until you can open the hatch. There are four more clips at the top sides and middle sides, and four plastic screws at the bottom which is only accessible when the hatch is opened.
The lock is only sold as an assembly at $100.

I cant open the glass on my back hatch any suggestions?

The glass hatch release handles fail all the time on these models (which is why the system was eliminated in 2009 models).

The glass hatch handle is $32 list from the dealer.

Removal and replacement requires a philips screwdriver and a 10mm socket and ratchet with extension.

Open the glass hatch by manually activating it through the access hole on the inside of the tailgate (small square panel covering it)

Remove the two philips screws and the one pop fastener holding the plastic trim on the back of the glass hatch handle area.

Remove the two 10mm nuts holding the handle on, unplug the wire and remove, noting the routing of the wiring on removal.

Reassemble in opposite order, being sure to route the wiring correctly.

Turn on the rear window wiper . Try to get the wiper arm off the glass. There is a switch that will not let the window operate if the wiper is on the glass.

Today is your lucky day. Get inside of your vehicle to open the lift gate and then open the glass from the inside as well . From the outside of the vehicle with the gate down and the glass open you will see the cover on the glass held in place by two screws. Remove this cover to expose the micro switch for the glass opening handle. You will see a small white connector and with a little patience you can remove this connector. If the glass switch is bad your hatch will now open and your glass should close without having to lock the locks. The switch is a dealer item and goes for around $50 and a bit more dissassembly of window to replace switch/Handle. Happened to me and cost 100 just for them to tell me what was wrong. I used a stick to poke the safty latch for almost two yrs
