my sister has a 2001 chevy malibu and i changed the thermostat last friday. the car still only blows cold air instead of heat. there is no smell of radiator fluid in the vehicle, so i do not suspect the heater core. what could it be?

I have encountered the same problem once my heater core went I never had good heat ever since.the lines and heater core were flushed out, thermostat replaced,The water pump replaced. There is heat when you touch the lines, still no heat. The trap door underneath the dash box were the air comes into the car is alright. But my brother started to play around with the switch that control the air condition and hot air it worked could be defective switch,Also blower was replaced.not sure if this solves my problem.

I had this problem last year. My husband went to the local automotive store and bought their recommended thermostat. The problem with that is it wasn't exactly the correct one. My 2001 cavalier takes a thermostat that has a special seal. The one that my husband installed did not have the seal and was leaking around the thermostat. I went to the dealership with my problem and they installed one of the GM thermostats and I have had plenty of heat and no problems since.

Sounds Like the Blend air door is stuck If you turn get a thermometer and put in the center vent take the temp with the knob turned all the way cold then switch it all the way to hot to see if the temmp changes if it don't change the door is stuck open.If you smell coolant in the car its a good chance the heater core is leaking The best way to check this is go to auto zone etc and they will loan you a coolant system psi tester apply 12psi to coolant system and check passenger side floor for coolant leaking on carpet.

You could have a bad heater core.

To locate the thermostat follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine it will be at the end of the hose. Also if you have an electric secondary fan make sure the sensor that controls it is working or the engine will over heat.

SOURCE: 2001 caviler scan will not read car computer

No scanner communication can be caused by many different issues. #1 be sure you have power and ground at the diagnostic connector. Many times this power supply in on the "cigar" fuse or "accesory" fuse. Drop a dime in the cigar lighter...blow the fuse and no communication occurs.

2001 Chevy caviler still fires yellow replaced coils still wont run or hit

No fuel ! Spray carburetor cleaner into the engine through the throttle body . SECURITY light lit ? Injectors firing ? Just replacing parts isn't the way , you have to test . If there is spark , yellow or not it's fuel related . Or engine crank , cam timing off . Some good videos on youtube .

Coolant light is on replaced thermostat, fan not working. i have a 1999 chevy caviler what should i do

REplace the temp sensor then top off the coolant to avoid overheating. Fan will not work cuz sensor doesn't send signal that the coolant is hot enough to warrant a cooling from fan.

Thermostat on an 05 Cavalier is under the exhaust manifold on the lower radiator hose. Removal of manifold is required for servicing.
