My 1999 aurora suddenly starting stalling the past couple days when I slow down or come to a stop. I had the air flow sensor replaced last year and this solved the problem. Could this be the fuel pump now?..if so, where is it located. It starts back up with no problem after it stalls. Thank you, Kathy
Hi Kathy
Thats not the fuel pump but the timing belt instead, you have to get this checked out, when the ingine is getting close to idling speed i drops below the RPM and stalls.
I will assum that this is happening at stop signs and traffic lights etc!!
for the time being just keep your revs up a little bit when you are coming to a stop
kind regards
The Smart thing to do is take It to a mechanic.. I would not trust anyone here for car trouble help its too risky..
But I'm gonna guess but you saided and exactly quoted..
"I had the air flow sensor replaced last year and this solved the problem."
It could possibly be the same issue again.. But I'm not a certified mechanic, but it COULD be that, I would ask a mechanic to be sure...

"Had the same problem in my wife's Aurora. The check engine light was
not coming on before the stall nor did it stay on after you restarted
the car. Took it to a local dealership in Masontown PA. The service
manager quickly determined that the fuel system needed cleaned. After
having the EGR value and throttle body valves cleaned total cost around
$100, the car has run perfectly no stalling no idle problems best $100
ever spent"

Seems that fuel pump only needs replacements if you have leaks

You could have an IAC{idle air control}motor that is failed,GM has issued an updated IAC to cure this complaint.also the crankshaft position sensors cause this problem also,GM has also issued updated crankshaft position sensors for the same symptoms.
If ur issue is still there, i am sure the issue wld be resolved, if u follow below steps :-
these are very well know for a throttle body carboned up. when this happens the throttle plate will not allow enough air to pass thru during a closed throttle. it would be a good idea to clean the throttle body real well with some carb cleaner. here is the instructions. also have have some other info on this concern, which i have also included
Throttle Body Inspection and Cleaning
Removal Procedure
images available only to Customers.
Notice: Do not damage the MAF sensor screen. A damaged screen could restrict airflow and lead to a driveability concern. Remove the MAF sensor bolts.
Remove the MAF sensor and intake air duct as an assembly.
images available only to Customers.Inspect the throttle body bore and throttle valve plate for deposits. It is necessary to open the throttle valve to inspect all surfaces.
Notice: Do not use any solvent that contains Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK). This solvent may damage fuel system components. Clean the throttle body bore and throttle valve plate using a clean shop towel with GM Top Engine Cleaner, P/N 1052626 or AC-Delco Carburetor Tune-Up Conditioner, P/N X66-P, or equivalent product.
Installation Procedure
Notice: The outlet of the air cleaner assembly and the MAF sensor inlet duct must line up when completely installed. Misalignment may cause incorrect airflow readings resulting in MIL illumination or a driveability concern. An improperly installed inlet duct assembly or air cleaner assembly may cause misalignment. Install the MAF sensor and intake air duct as an assembly.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems. Install the MAF sensor bolts.

OLDSMOBILE Aurora Fuel Pumps
Description: There are two types of fuel pumps, mechanical fuel and electrical fuel pump. A mechanical fuel pump produces low pressure (3 to 7 PSI) and is usually driven by the engine and found on vehicles equipped with a carburetor. OLDSMOBILE Aurora 1987 and newer all use electric fuel pumps, because of the introduction of electronic fuel injection. Electric fuel pumps produce higher pressure typically 10 to 50 PSI.
Purpose: The purpose of your OLDSMOBILE Aurora fuel pump is to provide a constant fuel flow and pressure to the engine. A fuel pump pushes fuel from the tank and sends it under pressure to the injectors, which spray it into the engine’s intake manifold. The fuel pressure is kept constant by a fuel pressure regulator.
Maintenance Tips/Suggestions: OLDSMOBILE Aurora Fuel pumps require no maintenance. Regular fuel filter changes can help extend the life of the electric fuel pump on electronic fuel injection equipped vehicles. See your owner’s manual for fuel filter service intervals. A clogged filter can restrict fuel flow shorting the life of the fuel pump. You can also help prolong the life of the fuel pump by keeping as must fuel as possible in the tank. Since fuel cools the pump, having plenty of fuel in the tank helps keep the pump from overheating. A restricted fuel pump inlet strainer can starve the pump, causing it to overheat and fail. Buying your gasoline from a reputable dealer can eliminate this problem. Proper voltage at the fuel pump, and fuel pressure should be checked before replacing the fuel pump. Consult your service manual for proper pressure and testing procedures. Keeping your OLDSMOBILE Aurora fuel system properly maintained is vital to your vehicle’s performance and fuel efficiency.
Failure symptoms: A failing or faulty electric fuel pump can cause various symptoms including a loud whine from the fuel tank area, hesitation when accelerating, and lack of performance and stalling.
WARNING: Ignoring these symptoms may lead to a total fuel pump failure disabling the vehicle.
AKA: Gas pump, fuel transfer pump, EFP
Location: OLDSMOBILE Aurora electric fuel pumps are almost always located inside the fuel tank, but there are some vehicles where the pump may be located along the frame rail or mounted to the body near the fuel tank. The fuel pump has a strainer at its inlet to filter out fuel tank contaminants.
If u wish i can also locate a diagram for fuel pump :)

1999 Oldsmobile Aurora stalls when I slow down.It Did this about a year ago and I had the air flow sensor replaced and it solved the problem. Started again about 3 days ago. Could it be the fuel pump, also where is the fuel pump locatedd.
Thank you leecom72, I'm taking it in to a mechanic in the morning with a couple of the solutions I have received, hopefully it's not going to cost me a fortune. I love the car and trying to keep it running til I get my son through college. Can't afford car payments at the time. Thanks again. ;-)
