Question about 1995 Dodge Dakota

1 Answer

Electrical We slid into the back of another truck and the headlights do not turn on but they do come on for a moment when you try to turn on the brights. There is a piece broken off of the turning signal... I can not afford a mechanic unless I absolutely have to .... Any ideas as to what I need to fix?

Peter From your comment I take it you have neither high nor low beam in both lights. If this is so check the fuses inside the interior of the car and under the hood. There may also be headlight relays that you can easily check by finding the same part number relay for another system of your car and swapping them if it works the you know you need to replace the relay if it doesn't then you need to do a little more work. Take a headlight out and get two jumper wires and hook the headlight directly to the battery if it works test the other light also. If both lights work then you know you have a wiring problem and the first place I would look is the light switch. If it is easy to get to I would chek it before I pulled the headlights out. A lot les trouble and if it works you know you are headed in the right direction anyway.. If after all the testing you still haven't found an obvious problem then you will have to troubleshoot the wires from the switch relays, etc to the headlight to find out where you are losing power. it could be something as simple as the ground wire for the lights being pulled loose because the battery wasn't bolted down and slid when you hotrodded it around the corrner trying to impress las chicas. Headlights are usually simple setups so if you don't find an easy fix from these tips then down load the manual for free and look at the wiring schematic. people freak out when you mention working with electricity but just thing of it as water flowing in a water hose. If there is a break in the hose because it rubbed against something sharp or hot then you loose the water there(electricity) if you have a kink in the hose the water can't get through. Same thing with electricity if you have a lot of corrosion or a bad connection the electricity can't get through. Try it you can do this keep me posted as to what you try and I will keep checking back to help you along.

Removing headlamp

  • Place a piece of cardboard between the headlight and the bumper to protect your vehicle from getting scratched when you remove the headlight. Use masking tape to hold the cardboard in place.
  • 2 Remove the four screws that hold the headlight to the vehicle's frame. Pull the headlight away from the vehicle's frame so you have access to the back of the headlight.
  • 3 Locate the electrical connector block on the back of the headlight. Squeeze the sides of the block and pull it away from the headlight to access the bulb.
  • 4 Remove the bulb from the headlight. Push the bulb in, toward the connector block, and turn it until it releases. Push the new bulb into the block and turn it until it locks in place.
  • 5 Plug the electrical connector block back into the headlight and place the headlight back into the vehicle's frame. Secure the headlight with the screws. Remove the cardboard from the vehicle bumper.

Need to change left front turn single whole ***. come out?

    1. Go to the front of the car and open the hood. Locate the two screws that mount the headlight assembly to the front of the vehicle. The screws are on top of the assembly at both ends. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws. Pull the headlight assembly straight off of the Intrepid.
    2. Locate the turn signal electrical connector at the outer side of the headlight assembly. There is a thick wire coming out of it. Turn the electrical bulb socket counterclockwise to take it out of the headlight assembly.
    3. Pull the turn signal bulb straight out of the electrical socket.
    4. Push in a new turn signal bulb. Reinstall the electrical socket with the new bulb in it to the headlight assembly. Turn the socket clockwise until it is tight. Push the headlight assembly back in place on the car and use and screwdriver to put the mounting screws back in.

    1. Open the hood of your KIA Amanti and look behind the headlight that has gone out. Locate the round knob on the back of the headlight.
    2. Turn the knob counterclockwise 1/4 of a turn and gently remove it from the back of the headlight. Carefully remove the electrical cable within the headlight housing that is attached to the back of the headlight bulb.
    3. Locate the metal clip that holds the light bulb in place by pushing the clip arm straight in and sliding it down. Remove the bulb from the headlight housing.

Fitting front headlights in Saab 900 1993

You really need to clarify what you are trying to do!

The headlight case is secured by two horizontal bolts at the top of the case, visible from outside the car and under the hood when it is slid forward but not raised, and one vertical screw at the outside of the case that connects to the body or side lamp case(?) and is visible from inside the engine bay. There is no adjustment to the fitting of the headlight case to the body.

Aiming the headlights is done with the nylon knobs on the back of the headlight, from inside the engine bay.
