Question about 1998 Ford Escort

Ford escort p reg mk6

Starts ok first and drives fine but if its cold out it cuts out then struggles 2 re start but dos after a wile then is fine the rest ov the trip till the engine is cold again any idears whats wrong ??

Your coolant system aint heating up like it should. Its your thermostat. You need to change it. its broke. There are four parts to your thermostat. You need to make sure that you get all four parts out. A thermostat costs about five bucks. Its an engine temp. regulator. If its broke your engine wont warm up at all. If it seizes shut, your engine will overheat. Your thermostat is broke. I Have the exact same car that I have been repairing for the last three months.

The thumostat can be stuck open i would check that first.If that doesnot solve the problem.Then flush out coolant and make sure you have no air in the system good luck

Common fault im afraid, the alternator. double check the wiring though as they do corrode, also make sure the alternator hasnt been covered in oil if it is then cure the oil leak first, as this will damage the new one if it leaks in again

Since you're running diesel, you might need an engine block heater. Even the largest vehicles need to keep the block warm when the winter temperatures drop. It keeps the engine oil & fuel looser.

buy some new heater plugs..used heater plugs always struggle in the cold.easier just to change them
