Warn manual hub install 2000 f-250

I had the shop replace the original electronic hubs with warn manuals. I tried it this morning, and 4x4 only worked when I engaged the knob on the dash. It also completely dis-engaged when I switched the knob back to 2wd. The hubs were manually put in the lock position twice.

I thought the vacuum engagement would no longer work? Manuals are in or out manually only correct?

When you turn the knob to 4x4 the transfer case will engage then it will also activate the vacuum for the hubs. the truck will kick to a lower gear with transfer case engaged but the hubs are not. thats where the manual hubs come in you will have to lock them in order to spin the wheel.

THE KNOB ON THE DASH ENGAGES THE TRANSFER CASE, WHICH TURN THE AXLES. THE MANUAL HUBS LOCK THE WHEELS TO THE AXLES.

When you replace 2001 kia sportage vacuum hubs with manual, it it just the front hubs that get replaced?

If it is a rear wheel drive predominately then yes you replace the front vac hubs only as the rear is constantly driving, is it a east west motor or north south , that will tell you a lot

Automatic Locking Hubs REMOVAL & INSTALLATION The following procedure covers removal & installation only, for the hub assembly. The hub should be disassembled ONLY if overhaul is necessary. In that event, an overhaul kit will be required. Follow the instructions in the overhaul kit to rebuild the hub.
  1. Remove the capscrews and washer from the hub cap. Fig. 1: Exploded view of the automatic locking hubs 84907274.gif

  2. Remove the hub cap and spring.
  3. Remove the bearing race, bearing and retainer.
  4. Remove the keeper from the outer clutch housing.
  5. Remove the large snapring to release the locking unit. The snapring is removed by squeezing the ears of the snapring with needle-nose pliers.
  6. Remove the locking unit from the hub. You can make this job easier by threading 2 hub cap screws into the outer clutch housing and hold these to pull out the unit. To install:
  7. Wipe clean all parts and check for wear or damage.
  8. Coat all parts with the same wheel bearing grease you've used on the bearings.
  9. Position the locking unit in the hub and install the large snapring. Pull outward on the unit to make sure the snapring is fully seated in its groove.
  10. Install the keepers.
  11. Install the bearing retainer, bearing and race. Make sure that the bearing is fully pack with grease.
  12. Coat the hub cap O-ring with wheel bearing grease and install the hub cap.
  13. Install the capscrews and washers. Tighten the screws to 45 inch lbs. (5 Nm).
Manual Locking Hubs The engagement and disengagement of the hubs is a manual operation which must be performed at each hub assembly. The hubs should be placed FULLY in either Lock or Free position or damage will result. WARNING
Do not place the transfer case in either 4-wheel mode unless the hubs are in the Lock position! Locking hubs should be run in the Lock position periodically for a few miles to assure proper differential lubrication. prev.gif next.gif

F250 4X4 MANUAL HUBS WILL NOT ENGAGE ALSO HAVING

im not sure if a 2000 f150 and a 2000 f250 have the exact steering column, but incase it is then check at the base of the column inside and you may see a triangler shape bracket that the shift cable connects to,there will be 2 torque screws holding the bracket to the column, either a t-20 or t-25 not sure, they may be loose so the shifter will be sloppy...my 2000 f150 had that problem and i stumbled upon it,it seems to be a 2000 year issue...about the manual hubs, try locking them in and drive forward and reverse very slow a few times,if they lock in then they are sticky and it takes time for the spring inside to push then together.lock the hubs in first, then after a while shift to 4x4,because if they are just sticky,it may strip the teeth on the lockouts from the axel turning against the inside of the lockout.

4 wheel drive won't work

It is usually the piece of **** vacuum hubs. Replace them with warn manual hubs and your problems are over. Warn also makes automatic hubs but twice the money.

Remove the automatic locking hubs from the vehicle. You will probably notice on one hub or the other the alloy tabs that extend from the inner part of the lockout hub are sheared off, they will probably be found loose in the hub or near the bearing. The manufacturer Warn makes a good replacement automatic hub for the Kia Sportage; Warn part # 61918 for the automatic hub or if you prefer the manual hub Warn part # 60247. The hubs come with excellent instructions to remove the existing hub parts as well as the installation of the new hubs. This seems to be a common failure with the Kia Sportage and almost certainly is your problem.

95 dodge 2500 4x4 front axle clicks in 2wd not 4wd when engaged

Do you have automatic locking hubs? Do you need to turn hubs on wheels in order to have 4 wheel drive work? If all you do to get in 4wd is move shifter, then you have automatic locking hubs. The clicking indicates that the hubs are not fully disingaging. To check, block rear wheels, jack front up, and turn tire. the axle should not be turning...if it is, hub is still ingaged....time for new hubs.....if hubs are bad, and you want to save money, you can purchase a set of manual hubs made by (WARN)...its more than half the cost, but you will have to turn hubs to lock and unlock manually. Note...you still need to use the gear selector to put and take out 4wd.

Hubs do quit working. Jack both front wheels off of the ground and lock the hubs but leave the transfer case in 2wd. If you spin one wheel the other should spin backwards. If not replace the hubs. If they do spin correctly, you may have a transfer case problem or a front chunk problem.

Manual hubs are stuck and can't be engaged

Perhaps replacing the hubs would fix the problem. Locking hub often sit unused if you are not a frequent user of 4x4. This lack of use leads to the hub being hard to turn and in need of replacement. http://consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com/1990-to-1998-suzuki-sidekick.htm has examples of various aftermarket hubs, personally I think the Warn hubs are the best.

Get rid of the crappy O.E. locking hubs. Go to the parts store and buy some Warn manual locking hubs. They are easy to install and will fix your problem.
