First you need to remove th wooden bezel surrounding the shifter. Do this by gently prying up the bottom part of the wood closest to the cup holders in the armrest using a small screwdriver. Then work out te top part gently. Rotate/angle the wood bezel to get it over the shifter. It will slide past, just work it around the button. Once this is removed then you need to remove the ashtray below the climate control. Now that the shifter bezel has been removed locate the 2 screws securing the bottom of the ashtray housing and remove them. The ashtray then will only be held in be retaining clips at the top. Once the screws are removed you'll want to have the ashtray open to get better leverage on it to pull. Gently slide the ashtray out. Be careful not to pull to hard on the actual tray of the ashtray. there is a plastic tab in the back of the ashtray that can't be seen that prevents it from coming out all the way that can easily be broken. If you do break it the ashtray is still secured to the swing mechanism by 2 screws in the bottom of the tray that will still allow it to be functional and secure, so don't worry. After the ashtray is removed the next step is to remove the small trim piece directly underneath the climate controls. On 2000 and 2001 models this will be made of wood. 97-99 models it will be black plastic. Using a small flathead screwdriver gently pry the strip of wood or plastic out. Starting in the middle of the strip is best, the retaining clips are on the right and left of the strip. It should pop out fairly easily.This will expose the screws holding in the bottom of the climate control which will need to be removed. Once the climate controls are removed the bottom radio screws should be visible. Next for the screws retaining the top of the radio you'll need to remove the clock/airvents located above the radio. Remove this with a small flathead screwdriver using the pop out method. Once removed this will expose the screws retaining the top fo the radio. Remove these screws and the screws at the bottom and the radio should slide out. Again, this will work on all models from 97-2001.

Are you saying the engine cranks but won't start, or the engine won't crank ? If the engine does not crank, you would check for voltage at the starter, the neutral safety switch, and the key switch as well as the ground connections.
take the woodgrain cover off around shifter, it pops off. next pull out the small panel just below the radio, pull it straight out towards you, set it aside. there are 4 bolts holding the radio in, you will need a light to see the back 2. remove these bolts and carefully pull radio straight out.
Hello, I have a 2000 ES300 and while the body style is different believe the newer model still has the rear deck mountedsub-woofer that you are referring to. The process of removing this speaker would start off the same as if you were going to replace the third brake light also located in this housing. Using a flathead screwdriver work your way around prying/popping up all four corners of the speaker grill covering the speaker that have the retainer clips. Once you disengage the clips work/maneuver the grill up and towards you gently and it should slide out. The bulb for the third brae light will be attached to this speaker grill, disconnect the snap wire from the bulb and you should have a clear visual of the speaker and the four bolthead screws securing it. Remove these screws and your almost home free. The next part might be slightly more difficult. If the speaker s simply connected by a clipped on wiring harness, just detach.On my 2000 ES300 i have the pioneer system(Not Nakimichi) and the 2 wires (one black, and one red) are soldered directly to the speaker. You can take a soldering iron(maybe a battery or gas powered one unless you have an inverter) and remelt the solder to remove the wires or you can elect to simply cut the wires. If you choose to cut them make sure you cut them as close as possible to the soldered joints so you have plenty of wire left to install the replacement speaker.Then install replacement either soldering or using crimp clamps and reassemble. ( Note if you simply want to add a aftermarket amplified sub-woofer you don't need to remove the sub-woofer out of the housing. You can tap into the wire leads and run it directly to the amplifier. Just cut one of the wires leading to the stock sub-woofer so it doesn't also come on and potentially blow while the radio is on. This will also prevent any bass humming when the radio is shut off but the aftermarket amplifier is still on because once one of the wires to the stock sub-woofer is disconnected or cut it breaks the circuit. If Your Looking At The Radio There Is A Black Bezel Around It. Get A Small Flat Head Screwdriver And Pry Forward On It And It Will Pop Off Then Behind It There Are Either 2 Or 4 Screws Holding The Radio In Place. Once You Remove The Screws The Radio Will Slide Toward You And Come Out.
This is normal. I also have a 2000 ES300. This became a problem when i tried to run an aftermarket sub off of the wire leads from the stock sub-woofer. When I would switch the radio off there would be a loud, deep, constant bass tone. As far as I know you cannot stop the voltage from continuously supplying the sub-woofer this is the way the factory amplifier is programmed, however, if you cut one of the wires(youhave to cut because wires are soldered to sub-woofer) the humming noise will not occur when radio is shut off. Cut the wire in middle and add crimp connectors so you can reconnect later if needed. You only need to cut one and it doesn't matter whether it's the black or red wire.
