Question about 2001 Chevrolet S-10

S-10 brake & tail lights going not working & then start to work

I have a 96 s-10 2.2 L. i am having a problem with my tail lights & brake lights. sometimes for some unknown reasom my tail lights & brake lights will quit working, but when they quit it will last for a few minuites & then they will start working for a few minuites. so they work for a bit & are broke for a bit over & over & over. i dont know if it is a fuse or a relay or a switch. I do have fog lights that are wired directly into the headlights but they have been that way for several years with no problems. if anyone knows anything about s-10 brake lights coming on & going off every couple of minuites please let me know. this only happens every now & then & i do have a brand new optima yellow top battery. please let me know if anyone can help.

I had a problem with my turn signals and break lights not working at one time. I had a new multi function switch put in and it wasn`t the problem. It was the little square thing that makes the turn signal sound behind the glove box all you had to do is push down on it and it worked. Don`t know if this is the same problem but this will help if this ever happens.

Yeah, i got pulled over for apparently running a flashing red. Any way, my rear tale lights were working then. Not even 20 minutes / 10 miles later I got pulled over again (by a more friendly cop) whom asked me if I knew my lights weren't working. I got out and he wasn't sh*t'n me! They just died cold turkey! Never had the issue before, that I know of! I did do work on my truck earlier in the day (transmission mount, O2 guage, Boost Guage for new supercharger) so I don't know, any ideas?

I had a similar issue with my rear tale light. Could be a loose wire.
I found if I hit a bump it would come back on.

The dash light are on the same circuit as the tail lights as a safety feature. You know when the tail light are out because the dash lights go out when they do. Check the fuse box. If the lights are going out and coming back on the fuse or wiring to that fuse may be loose.

I have 96 town and country the back tail light willn't go out

Start your car, turn emergency lights on. Inspect tail lights. You will see one filament on. Turn the light switch on too, in parking light position. You will see both filaments on. Ask a helper to press the brake pedal too. You will see brake lights on. After completing this test, you will get more information to narrow the problem.

1. my 96 ford windstar's tail lights dont work, but the bulbs are ok. 2 I want to change my rear brake shoes; are there any special tools I need?

If tail lights don't work, check your dimmer switch for any shorts. If the brake lights don't work, then check the brake switch behind the brake pedal. You can test them with a multitester.
For brake shoes you need socket or star wrench, and needle nose pliers for the springs unless you have a spring too. If you have disc brakes, then socket set and a c-clamp to push the pistons back in.
