Question about 1990 Ford Taurus
I just purchased a 1990 ford taurus GL sedan with a 3.0 v6 engine, the vin letter for the engine is U.
The wipers are not working. The windsheild wiper motor is not working.
The washer motor is working.
I would like to know how to trouble shoot this problem.
There is no diagram for the fuses so I pulled and checked all the fuses and they are good. Don't know how to check the three circuit breakers in the fuse box. When I try the wiper switch and turn it to the various settings all I hear is some clicking in a module under the dash which I unscrewed and lowered. I opened the plastic module box and it looks like nothing can be replaced inside this box. I went to the auto store and copied a diagram of the circuit.
I think the module is called an "internal governor". It has 6 wires going to the wiper motor, 2 plugs go into wiper motor. a dark green which is positive all the time, a blk pink, a yellow red, a dark blue orange, a white, and the motor is grounded. What do each of these wires do. Also, from the wiper switch there are 3 wires going to the interval governor, brown white, orange, blue white.
Any help would be appreciated.

Look for the fuse for the rear wiper motor is a 15 amp mini-fuse , in location # 8 of your POWER DISTRIBUTION BOX in the engine compartment. Check in the PD BOX for; - relay # 8 is the rear wiper down relay , and - relay # 10 is the rear wiper up relay .

I have a 1996 Ford Taurus with a similar malfunction the intermittent wiper function is erratic, but the wipers park properly. I'm the original owner & this malfunction was in the car from the factory. I have a regular Ford Dealership manual & came to the conclusion that the Generic Electronic Module located behind the fuse panel is bad (computer glitch in programming) ! Ford Dealers want over $ 300.00 for a brand new module, I haven't checked with my local used auto parts recycler yet, but I know it will be less than the dealer price !

You can't check these modules unless you have the specs on them.good luck on finding them, but if you do let me know please. I've had the same problems on fords. they hide these modules on the passenger side right side of the glove box, just under the dash. usually the only box there
