Question about 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser

Open Question

All my wiring has been fried in the Landcruiser BJ73 1985

Hi Guru's of help, I found that a friend (some friend) has hard wired some gadgets to the car and fried it. Naturaly I thought he had an idea of what he was doing.

After consulting an Auto Electrician for a Quote I feel I can at least follow a schematic drawing although it will take some time and do it my self. I am an Air Con man by trade.

Could you Guys PLEASE send me or set me in the right direction for a Drawing?
Cheers AJ

Thanks Loringh for your reply, a slight exageration however behind the dash there are plenty of cooked wires.

I suppose that a schematic diagramme of the wiring would just confirm what you are saying Loringh, and I agree "that is a realistic view".

But even as a challenge to understand what I am looking at and where it goes would be good for me, as I am a curios person that just likes to understand how they tick. More than likely it will be the Auto sparkies.

    Cheers clanjohnson

    Hi clanjohnson;

when you say "all my wiring has been fried" do you really mean ALL.

If you do, then personally, I would never attempt a job like this and I am a retired electronics engineer.

If certain sections of the wiring has "been fried" that is another story, although, depending on what section we are talking abaout, it still might be more than you want to tackle.

I'm not trying to be the voice of doom, just trying to give uou a realistic viewpoint.

    Loringh

SOURCE: 1998 rav 4 ecu pinout location

It is the Violet wire with Wht tracer (off of pin 9C) labeled SPD in the main ECM Engine Control Module.

Locate the E6 dark gray ECM 22 pin connector (two rows of 11 pins). The electornic signal you are looking for is on PIN9 be very careful.

Do Not use the ECM 26 pin or 16 pin connectors...just the 22 pin connector.

You should check all wires and connections as well make sure all bulbs are not burnt out. Check all your fuses as well. If you had one wire fried you could have others the same way.

Having to replace factory fitted radio/cd auto electrician found wiring behind radio hard and easily broken so unusable. Is wing hard to replace

Its not to hard if u are capable of running wire. First off most aftermarket radios have generally the same wireing red is power to key yellow is power strait to the battery and black is ground now depending on the radio you buy there will be one or two blue wies one with a white line the one blue wire with white line is your power antenna wire if you have a power antenna the other blue wire is for added components like an amp for your subs if you have one. Now there 8 wires that will be green, green/white, purple purple/white, white, white/black, grey, grey/white and those are all your speaker wires front and rear channels. There might be more wires like auto dim and mute and so on but most of the time nobody hooks them up because thay are not needed. Hope this helps good luck.

sound like you have a bad ground our pwr or short in you wireing sounds like some ine pinched a wire in the door and caused a direct short to ground or your alternator regulator went bad the wrong way supplying youcar with over 14.4 v max 12v reg when you dbl voltage you cut amperage in half and that will fry all electronics and no fuse will blow there for frying B.C.M ,E.C.M P.C.M MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH WIPERS TURN SIGNALS HEAD LIGHTS TAIOL LIGHTS ECT

Spotlight wiring in landcruiser

I would just tie into the high beam wiring at the factory lights, wire them into a relay and go from there. I wouldn't even consider adding into the high beam system without a relay. You may also want to consider a switch so you can shut them off if you found yourself in a position where you want your factory highbeams but not the extra's. Good luck and have fun :)

Headlight switch Wire connector for 88' Bronco II

The little wire ends and the plastig plug are available at auto elecy shop just cut and shut resolder new terminal and fit to plug. To stop this problem re occouring i would suggest fitting a relay to the head lights both high and low beam and a relay for any spots seperatly but connected to high beam only. excessive amps has been running thru the switch causing meltdown. Relays will reduce the load to the wires

Negetive battery cable sparks when Itry to connect i put new altenator&starter selenoid

I had a similar issue and found that the connections at the starter shifted and created a short. An old friend of mine kept frying the starter solenoid wires and kept a spare set along. He beat the problem by replacing the main ground strap/cable from the battery to the chasis. Age caused too much ground resistance and caused the ignition wires to overheat and melt. Another friend was on his fourth alternater on a Landrover when I suggested he look at the battery ground.
