Check the coolant fan switch. on 4 cyl. engines it 's mounted on the driver side of cylinder head. on 6 cyl. engines it's mounted on the intake manifold, just above the water pump.there will be 3 sensors,it will be the one on the left. good luck

Where is the air conditioner blower fan relay on 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee located?

The blower fan relay is located in the fuse box on the driver's side fender-well. A Jeep Cherokee uses an electric fan as an auxiliary fan for engine cooling and for cooling the air conditioning condenser when the air conditioning is in operation. A radiator temperature-sensing switch that activates the fan relay at 198 degrees F turns the fan on and controls its operation. The temperature drops when the vehicle is in motion and the switch turns the fan off. When the air conditioning system is in operation, the air conditioning relay supplies power to the fan relay via a fan diode downstream from the ignition switch. This diode activates the fan relay and keeps the fan operating as long as the air conditioning is on. Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

The engine over heat unless air conditioning is on

from memory the electric fan runs constant when air conditioning is turned on i would suggest the thermal control for the electric fan monted to the radiator is not functioning correctly is normally mounted to a flat spot on radiator

Over heats, cooling fans don't turn on.

on grand am the radiator fan just burns up quickly all you need to get the power wire off the radiator then just find a power that only turns on when the engine is on this is how i have my radiator fan (got the power coming off the wiper motor)

1996 Pontiac Grand Am / Overheating

likely you have a blown head gasket or crack in head. Though common, this condition does not always show up in engine oil. To verify, have a shop do a hydrocarbon test on radiator.
