Question about 2001 Ford Focus

1 Answer

01 Focus 2.0 split port engine. Service engine light on!

Occasionally (approx. 1% driving time) car will lose power as though it is starved for fuel and will not maintain speed, does this for a few minutes and then recovers. Also has minor jerking from power surge and stall.

Diagnostic check at auto parts store revealed following codes.

P0135 bank1 sensor1 02 heater me1! $45.00?

P1132 manufacturer control fuel air metering! Will replacing EGR valve fix problem? $62.00?

Will these repairs fix the power lose/surge and then cancel the service engine light or do I need to look for something else?

Any recommendation for which is the best repair to start?

Shuts off while driving

stalls. ? all the time, only cold , only hot engine?
what year car?

can you save it with a fast right foot.?
stalls can be caused by about 50 things, I have a list...
but we dont guess, we do tests and diagnosis this.
it can be one of these.
1: bad engine. (loses compression only hot?)
2: bad spark, ever tune it up? new spark plugs, etc?
3: bad fueling. (too little =starve, too much = flooding)
4: lost electrical power to the EFI system.
5: bad fuel.

2004 Ford Focus LX, was sputtering while driving

A flashing light is BAD. Its damaging the cat converter. I would check or replace the spark plug wires ( if all OK, then) replace the coil pack. I would not replace anything unless they test bad. but these car are known for bad coil packs.

Lose of power on acceleration like its starving

Sounds like there is a load of dirty fuel in that gas tank. Ran good for a while after changing fuel filter, then began to run poorly again. Remove fuel tank, drain and clean out, replace fuel filter AGAIN. That should cure it. Hope this helps

Idles poorly , and its like its starving for fuel or air

1. Vacuum leaks. Check all mounting bolts at the intake, check all hoses by wiggling them around. Listen with stethoscope or a length of fuel hose held up to your ear with engine running. You will be looking for a hissing sound. 2. Check egr valve. 3. Check air filter. 4. Check timing belt. ( you will need a timing light) If the mark is jumping around, your belt has jumped. If it stays basically in one place, it's good. 5. Check camshaft lobes. 6. Valves burnt or leaking. 7 Dirty or clogged injectors. 8 . Faulty idle control system.
