Question about 1998 GMC Jimmy

Interior light stays on........

Recently, my interior light wants to stay on, draining the battery. I can 'override' on the dash, all door jam switches work when tested out of circuit. Could this be a door handle switch? and how do I test those?

I actually feel pretty stupid now, but I fixed this problem by replacing the plastic tab on the door panel that lines up with the front door light swithes. The passenger side was left off inadvertently while doing maintenance to the locks last summer.

I actually found that a door panel cover was off on the passenger side. This "cove" lined up perfectly with the passenger side door switch. Covering it up with tape fixed the problem. Thanks.

I actually had this same problem. I took the fuse out and had no interior lights for awhile till i tried a fuse with a lower amp in it, now it works great!

1997 jeep grand cherokee interior light fuse. Where is it so I can take it out because my interior lights are staying on and going to drain my battery.

Hey there,
Sounds like you may have a bad switch at the door or in the dash on-off switch.
You could also remove the light bulb for a quickie, otherwise the interior light fuse should be in the fuse box: The older vehicles it was under the left side of the dash at the drivers seat (interior of car). Newer vehicles, it would be (typically) in the engine compartment near the drivers side fender wall.
Best regards
Ck

Interior lights wont go out

Check for a faulty switch inside the door jam. If the switch is broken or pushed into the holder, it will not open the circuit thus the light will stay on. You may have to remove the bulb until you have time to replce the switch. Good luck

How do you get the interior lights to come on when a door is open

Hi, viewer. The interior light is powered and controlled by the body control module or BCM. However, there is an on/off button beside the main headlight switch that overrides the interior lighting function. If this button is off, interior lights will not come on regardless of any door being closed or opened.

If this button is on, interior lights will come on whenever a door is opened. If you close all doors, and if the driver door is the last to be closed, the interior lights will stay on for about 30 sec and then the lights goes off automatically. In case you left any door opened too long, the BCM has an internal timer that will shut off the interior lights automatically when it detects that a door is still opened and the allowable time has elapsed. The BCM is programmed this way to protect the battery circuit and functions. : )

Interior lights remain on after doors are closed causing battery to drain overnight. When fuse is removed lights go of and battery stays charged.

Check to be sure interior lights are turn off when you are in the vehical. If so check the interior light switches on the doors for proper opperation.

1998 sunfire, dome light stays on after both doors are closed.

check that the buttons on the doors are not stuck or broken.. you also have a dome override (should be near your light switch) or the roller that dimes the interior lights
