Chekc your manual. It says that the transmission fluid is in a closed system and you can't check/add it.

Having problem with transmission shifting. Tried to check transmition fluid, but can find the dip stick.

The transmissions on the VW New Beetles are sealed, and there is no dip stick. Sorry, it's a dealer issue if there's a problem with the transmission.

Transmission wont go into overdrive on my 01 beetle, if you shift it manual it shifts hard into 3rd gear, every light on the dash is on. are all these problems related?

Try tuning the transmission by changing the fluid, filter and pan gasket. You might have to do it twice but in a few cases with newer vw beetles I have noticed a pattern of bad transmissions

I have a 2003 VW Beetle - love the car except I have to monitor the oil every month - it goes low - no leakes per mechanic both dealership and private. Was told by VW mechanic that Beetles use lots of oil....

Sounds like an isolated problem. While it's true that VW Beetles use a lot of oil, it sounds like you are loosing an abnormally high amount if your having to add oil every month. If it's not leaking out it has to be burning out through the engine. A good indicator of loosing too much oil through the engine is a white smoke coming from your exhaust.

Also, be certain your using the SAE 5W-30 oil that's recommended by VW.

2004 VW Beetle power steering fluid

I would use the factory Power steering fluid.  However as long as the fluid is Hydrolic oil G 002 000 you will be fine.  Just take this referance number in and have your local parts store see if they can come up with comprable fluid to the VW power steering fluid

Cannot find dipstick to check transmission fluid on 99 vw beetle. do '99 Passats need transmission fluid added to the engine? If so, how do I do this?

There is no "dipstick for the VW Beetle transmission". This is a dealer check/repair item. The unit is typically sealed, but can have a leak if the seal on top of the transmission fails. About a $700 repair. This happened on my 1998 VW New Beetle.
