the temp sensor communicates with the ecm(brain) and tells it rather the vehicle is worm(ambient temp.) cold(ambient temp.) operating temp. or hot. in which relaying information on how much fuel and air to intake, if this sensor is faulty the communication is broken there for. it will start to have running, starting, shifting and other issues, not usaly all at the same time. the most comen is starting problems and or running(driveabilaty) issues. when this sensor isn't comunicating corectly it may starve for air and fuel, or the other way around to rich flooding, cousing a long (hesitant) start time.

In cold weather, my car is slow to start and has stalled a few times. What should I check?

You don't say what make of car but it's about the same for all. Your problem is the choke adjustment. The choke raises the idle when the car is cold and after warm up drops to normal. You are doing the chokes job when you hold the pedal down, once its warmed up the choke no longer functions till cold again. So check the choke and the high idle speed adjustment. Simple fix. Hope this helps mike

I just changed the battery in my 2006 ford fusion and when i started my car for the first time the throttle control/ transmission light came on any idea on why this happened

This happened to me, all u have to do is RETRAIN your car, start the car and go thru all gears and let sit in each gear about 10 seconds, then turn car off and problem should be fixed. Hope this helps.

I have a 1991 300E Benz, automatic tranny. when the engine is cold the engine turns but does not start emmadiately it will take a few tries and it seems the engine splutters for few seconds and when it...

When it is cold in the morning, the cold start valve will be opened to give extra fuel to help the start. If it is not opened then it would take longer to start. The cold start gets the feedback from a thermal sensor at the top engine block. Check out this sensor. When it is bad it would tell ECM that engine is warm so the cold start valve is not open. The sensor is cheaper than the cold start valve. The idle spec is 750RPM but I think it is high and wasting fuel. Mine is 600 RPM and its idle is smooth so I wouldn't worry about it is low, as long as it is not hesitating.
