have you checked the power steering fluid level ? may just need topping up other wise will need to jack up the front end take off front wheels , get some one to turn wheel from left to right and back and look and listen to see if you can locate the area of noise , make sure the vehicle is supported on stands and not just the jack , it could also be coming from the power steering pump so have a listen there as well , so long as there's no leaks and the steering operates ok it may just be one of those noises a 14 year old car will pick up over time
take belts of there are sevrall pulleys on there spin one at time check for play on each one of them if any noise out of ethere one of them replace it if your not able to turn one of them thats the bad pulley ok check all pulley on it even alternator and power stering one not the crank one ok the crank one is way at buttom dont try that one that one you wont be able to turn let me know
your power steering pump has a cap on it.you have cold mark and hot mark.when car is cold engine not running.when you remove power steering cap it should be on cold mark.if not add until you get to cold mark on cap stick..dont over fill or you blow the seal.now when engine is hot been running.turn off car check.power steering cap should read full hot.mean level is correct.when you first check power steering fluid and it was real real low.you got a leaking high pressure hose.or power steering pump seal is leaking.if all check out good.your problem could be low tire pressure.worn ball joints.and tie rod ends.rack and pinion steering gear binding.
