Question about 1998 Honda Accord
My automatic car has died several times; once while driving 85 MPH on the freeway, once while coming to a stop and once when accelerating from a stop. All the lights on the dash come on; I put the car in neutral and restart easily and continue driving. I took it to the shop and they couldn't find the problem.
There was a recall related to this a few years ago. I know because my engine began shutting off on the interstate and other driving situations. You may be able to search for the recall or just take it in to a Honda dealership and tell them that you received a recall notice related to your ignition switch a while back and your car has been stalling out while driving. I believe a replacement of the ignition switch will fix your problem. I haven't had any problems since. The dealership shouldn't charge you anything for the repair.

It's the ignition switch if the dash lights go out.

I was having the exact same problem and the ignition switch was the solution. 99 Accord, 180k miles. The car would randomly and sporadically stall waiting at a red light, local speeds, highway speeds, etc. It would just cut off without warning, dash lights off, etc. Took it to the dealer who could not reproduce it at first, left it with them and thankfully they were able to reproduce it. The problem was the electrical part of ignition switch, which they had replaced about 10 years ago but they had replaced it with the exact same part. This time they replaced it with a different part and things have been perfect since then!
