One very common reason is a broken wire in the door jam.(hinge side) The harness gets bent there a lot and many times a wire finally breaks. Feel of the wires and see if you can feel the break as most of the time the insulation is not broken.
On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle,
arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the
panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want
to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to
get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel
and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and
disconnect the wiring for your controls and mirror. Then you can remove the bolts securing the mirror housing onto the door. (I assume that part is still intact).
If it's just the mirror piece and backing that fell out of the housing, then on the inside of the housing, you should see two to four clips that secure the pivot point and two rods that control the pitch of the mirror. You may be able to just 'jam' the mirror backing back in. But the rods need to be secured to the back of the mirror backing in order to prevent the mirror from just falling or moving on its own
Inside of the drivers side frame rail. About midway down the frame. Depending on production date, it should be plastic and have 2 fuel lines in one end and one fuel line on the other end. The retaining nut for the filter is on the outside of the frame rail. Hope this helps !
This year of ranger had a few flaws, In one case, a break power booster was robbing the vacumm, you can test this by plugging it off and seeing the differance, but you will have limited brakes. This model year had a problem with a vacuum leak on the manifold. You can check these in many ways, but please don't use starting fluid. The rear of the manifold usually on the drivers side where it seals to the block. Also, in 2 other cases a cracked head has gave me the same problem. It is caused from a loss of vacuum.
