Question about Dodge Pickup

1 Answer

96 dodge ram 2500 diesel, no start, fuel solenoid won't ingage, no power to pull'in circuit of solenoid, you can turn key on and manually activate the solenoid and the hold in windings will then keep it in and engine will then start. Or you can jump power from the battery to the solenoid and it will pull in and it will start, I need to know where the solenoid gets power from. I think straight from the ignition, but thought it might have a relay, I don't have a wiring diagram available right now thanks for your help

2000 dodge ram diesel 2500 . What is a fuel injection pump mechnical failure? a fuel valve feedback circuit?

This usually happens when the lift pump gets worn and fuel pressure drops below 7lbs and the injection pump has to work harder by pulling in the fuel and will destroy the pump, your is probably a vp44 fuel injection pump it needs replaced and they are expensive 1200.00+ but also change the lift pump or change to a fass fuel system,if the lift pump went out and you replace the injection pump it will ruin it in a short time.
The injection pump is not an easy job to change or for a novice mechanic as it has to be set in time with the engine at top dead center, and then the whole fuel system needs to be bleed of air.

My 1994 dodge ram 2500 diesel will not turn off with the key.

Check the fuel shut off solenoid on the drivers side of the engine. That's not the proper name but right now it escapes me. See if it has power and is shutting when the key is cycled, but the engine not started.

1995 dodge 2500 diesel starts then quits

Your shutdown solenoid might be getting weak. Locate the solenoid (on or near the fuel pump) and remove it. Leave it plugged in and turn the ignition on, then see if you can pull the plunger out with your fingers. It shouldnt budge. Also, check to see if it gets hot. It sounds as though its losing its pull right after the engine starts.

1995 dodge diesel will not start sometimes It just cicks .

Well diesels are known to be cold, I would chack out your fuel filter and fuel pump to see, if they are good or not.

Starting problem in a '97 dodge ram diesel

Could be the solenoid on the starter. Next time it doesn't start, hit the starter with a hammer or other hard object, then try to start it. If it starts, replace the starter before it leaves you stranded

Ignition switch

Next time this happens leave the key in the on position, open the hood and lift the fuel solenoid link (between the fuel solenoid and the injection pump) up. If it stays up the truck will start and run. The solenoid is shot but that might be a symptom of set of bad starter contacts.

The contacts start to pit bad enough that the power back feeds through fuel solenoid. Larry B is a good source for the parts to fix these problems: http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/default.htm

IT SOUNDS LIKE THE LIFT PUMP OR POSSABLE FUEL RESTRICTION CHANGE THE FUEL FILTER ALSO CHANGE THE AIR FILTER IF THAT DOSENT FIX IT YOU WILL NEED TO CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE OUT OF THE LIFT PUMP BEFORE YOU WASTE THE INJECTION PUMP
