Question about 1996 Pontiac Sunfire

1 Answer

Rough start occassionally

From time to time, when I start my 96 Pontiac Sunfire, it sputters when I press on the accelerator. If I ease off and try again it will work after 1 - 4 more of these incidents. Can also happen backing up. Most frequently happens when it's been run previously during the day. This just became a problem out of no where last month. Mechanic can't figure it out. Ideas?

First i'd try changing the air filter, if that doesn't work, try the fuel filter

On the highway at higher speeds the car starts to sputter then the ses light which is on already starts to flash, but if you let of the gas then ease the gas once again you are able to accelerate. Only...

you have an engine miss, any time the check engine light starts flashing the engine is missing, should be an easy fix sounds like either a bad spark plug or a bad plug wire if you have the codes checked there should be a code telling you what cylinder is missing, but if i were you i would tune up the engine all new plugs and wires and filters......GOOD LUCK

Changed starter in 96 sunfire now, cranks but will

Try turning the key to the on position three times, then leave it on the third time and wait about fifteen minutes for the security light to stop flashing. then turn the key off and try to start it.

96 sunfire starting problems

Change the coolant sensor, it is stuck in advanced mode causing the engine timing to be out of sinc. Do not over tighten the sensor. About 5ft.lbs is enough. Good luck!

Your timming belt has jumped a tooth.Remove the covers and check that all teeth are ok.Then tighten or change the timming belt.I would fit a new timming belt.Has it is costly when they fail.Good luck.pippall.
