Could possibly be control head for heater/ac system. lots of gm vehicles have this problem.sounds like a loose connection, look under the dash on the right side near blower motor to check wires to blower motor

My heater periodically works in my 99 ingrigue. Super frusturating. When i start it sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

The temperature display and the heater function are likely two different issues. I had a similar issue with intermittent heat on my 2001 Aurora. In my case it turned out to be the blower motor. As a vehicle ages and the bearings on the motor start going bad, the amount of energy it takes to spin the motor gets higher and higher. This can result in intermittent behavior or cause the heater resistors to go bad. It is also possible that the heater control itself is the issue, but with the age of this vehicle, I would start with the blower motor and then heater resistors.

My heater isn't working..how do i fix it?

Here's a list of possible culprits:

Priority Action Part Type Cause
1 Inspect - Antifreeze Needed - Coolant Level Low.
2 Inspect - Heater Control Valve - Leaking or Faulty Heater Control Valve.
3 Inspect - Thermostat - Thermostat Stuck Open.

First thing to check is your engine coolant level - quick and free.
Since your blower works, my nominee for the offending part would be the Heater Control Valve, which redirects hot coolant into the passenger compartment heater core. Without hot coolant, the blower will just blow cold air, since the heater core isn't getting the needed flow of hot coolant through it.
There may also be a fault in the "Temperature Valve Actuators" (there is a right hand and a left hand version of these - one for each side of the car).
The Right hand Temperature Valve Actuator is AC Delco part #15-72971.
The Left hand Temperature Valve Actuator is AC Delco part #15-72972.
Their pictures are available in the online AC Delco Parts Catalog at:

Heater blower motor wont run

Could be the motor itself or the motor resistors. Many times if the resistors are going bad you will get the high speeds but not the lod speeds. THe Aurora might not work this way due to the climate control system. Another area could be the heater control too, but the common failures are resistor/motor.

1997 Aurora heater fan won't work

So it's the blower motor, the motor resistor or the control unit. Typically the motor resistors fail, but the motors also fail. Try all of the speeds to be sure none of them work. Usually running on HIGH is the best test, because it has the greatest likelihood of turning the motor.

Heater stopped working this morning on my 95 Olds Aurora. A/C also fails to work. Any relay or fuse I should check for first?

there should be a fuse located on fuse panel for heater motor( 30 A Green)....after you check fuse other possibilities are bad fan motor...bad heater resistor block.....bad relay...the resistor blocks are very common problems

Heater blower only works when it wants to.Is this the resister?

I had a similar problem and thought the same thing. I'm not sure what made me change my mind, but I replaced the blower motor and this fixed the issue. So, while it could be either, in my case it was the motor.

Could be the motor or the blower motor resistors. I would go with the resistors first.

Most likley your blower motor has a "dead" spot in it when you hit a bump it jars it to work. Replace the blower motor.
