Is this electric? If so, can you hear the motors try to turn or hum? Do your car lights dim a bit when trying to open the window? If so, motor is good and roof is stuck to to debris or stick seal and will need some assistance with someone pressing firmly on the window and someone pushing the button. Also make sure seal is not stuck together. If you can not hear the motor check the fuse. If fuse is good, use an ohmmeter to test switch and if needed the power to the roof motor

Nissan rogue sunroof wont slide open. It will tilt up but not slide

1. Place the ignition switch in the ON position.
2. Push and hold the sunroof switch toward 2 . Once the sunroof has reached the full tilt position, release the switch. Push and hold the switch toward the 2 position again. After a delay of four seconds, the sunroof will make a small movement and backup.
3. Release the switch.
4. Within 5 seconds of releasing the switch, push and continuously hold the switch toward 2 . The sunroof will move from the tilt position to the open position and back to the close position.

How do you reset sunroof in a 2001 Monte Carlo with 3400 model I

check fuse and relay if good than possible motor ot track problem their should be a mechanical bypass that will let you close it if stuck open the following information is courtesy of monte carlo forum
To check the condition of your original sunroof guides:
  1. Gl*** in closed position.
  2. Locate & remove 3 torx bolts on each side of sunroof glass. Lift glass out of sunroof opening & set aside in a safe place.
  3. Locate "J" shaped cover plate at front of sunroof track assembly. Remove 2 torx bolts from each cover plate.
  4. Lift up bracket to remove.
  5. Inspect the plastic guides on each side. The sunroof cables attach to guides on front outer corner. Inspect this area closely for damage.
  6. Do not operate the sunroof with the J plates removed.
Troubleshooting:
If the sunroof guides are not broken & the glass is a uniform height along the rear edge your problem may be a stripped gear inside the motor. The motor has a manual override:
  1. Get access to the motor by removing the map light/switch console or lowering the front of the headliner.
  2. Insert a large standard screwdriver into the nylon bushing at the center of the motor hub. Push up & turn the screwdriver to manually move the sunroof glass. If the unit will fully open & close manually, you most likely only need a replacement motor.

If your sunroof is stuck in the open position follow these steps to get it closed:
  1. Remove the glass.
  2. Try to close the unit without the glass. Many times one side will still be operational and close correctly.
  3. Try to slide the inoperable lift arm forward. If it moves, slide it forward until it stops.
  4. You now need to slide the original plastic guide forward to lower the arm to the closed position. Using a standard screwdriver, push it forward. The lift arm should begin to lower.
  5. If the lift arm will still not fully lower, remove the J plate as explained above, sometimes the sunroof cable will need to be lifted up to allow the guide to fully slide forward.
  6. Reinstall glass.

KA sunroof won't open

sunroofs are a total pain to work on and are very delicate as to moving parts and adjustments. if you are not really mechanically inclined I would not mess with it. take it to a technician if you can afford it. If you think you can work on an intricate and sensitive mechanism and realize that once you get into it it may not close anymore then go ahead. If it is closed now I would just act like you don't have a sunroof anymore and leave it alone, lucky it is not locked in the open position. If you insist on working on it yourself you can remove the glass easily enough by looking into the opening from the inside and remove screws, should be four, 2 each side front and back. after removing the screws you can see most everything from the roof side and tell if something is out of place or debris is interrupting operation. good luck, you are going to need it.

My sunroof won't close

Some sunroofs have a open switch like the drivers window. You push it and the window will open automaticly. The button on your sunroof could be jammed so even though you can close it as soon as you release it, it will auto open on it's own.

My old mercedes w115 220 d (1974) manual sunroof is not closing. I don't know if there is any part of the sunroof missing beacuse the car was on a major reability program and I forget the pieces of the...

There's not a heck of a lot to the manual sunroof. I suspect some sort of debris in the track.
First off to remove a sunroof you open it all the way, looking down from on top of the car you will see the two chrome tracks on either side. They are healed on by two screws (there is a third adjustment screw on each side - it is obviously different and not holding the track down - don't mess with it -- or perhaps this is your problem...)
Remove the screws and the top to the tracks (they will lift right off) then slide the sunroof mostly closed and lift it out.
Now look into the tracks - back into the roof. Is there anything there that ought to not be there? Remove it - this can be challenging since it's narrow - a shot van and the biggest pice of tubing that will fit in there might do it for you.
Lube up the track with silicone lube (oil or grease will stick to dirt) clean the 4 feet of the sun roof. Notice the two rollers at the back these love the sunroof in place within it's open and push the back up when closed. With the roof out check that they move easily when you turn the handle.
Now back to the car - notice the two adjustment screws, they lift or lower the back of the track - perhaps you turned them when you were removing it the first time. In any event if they are up too high the roof won't fit (the wheels pushing out will try to push the sunroof door out of the car) You can see the small wedge next to the track - the wheels will roll up this wedge to close the back of the roof - and it needs to be in a reasonable position.
Don't force it you risk breaking the handle, the connecting mechanism or those wheels and where are you going to get a new one?
So now you can put the sunroof door back into place. Slide it back and forth - it should move easily. Now try to close it. It should close easily if not try adjusting the wedges down (this adjustment should not have changed but I am assuming you inadvertently changed these while trying to remove the sunroof door - it you're certain that you did not do that then it's something else).
Good Luck,
Frank

The sunroof on my 2006 Lincoln Zephyr is tilting and sliding on its own. Dont know where the owners manual is.

Don't need an owners manual to push the button, to
actuate the sunroof

Maybe you have the owner manual with your
preventative maintenance log book ,where you
write down all you do on the car

If it won't operate correctly, you need a repair shop !!
